For real. Imagine being a pro athlete, having to consume enough calories to perform/build, and have to deal with this disorder. As if things weren't tough enough. Props to him for succeeding despite the disadvantage.

Forreal. These guys have to eat 5000+ calories to make up for the burned calories during their workouts. The fact that he can't just crush down food must be bad.

Would you say the contract is... hard to swallow?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/seahawks/2015/01/29/malcolm-smith-super-bowl-xlviii-mvp-achalasia-seattle/22558657/
Smith, 25, takes greatest satisfaction from his ongoing ability to deal with achalasia, a rare disorder that affects around one in 100,000 people and makes eating a painstaking and uncomfortable process.
It regularly takes Smith more than an hour to complete his meals, which is why he usually finds a lone spot at the lunch table and does his own thing. Achalasia impedes the swallowing functions of the esophagus, causing sufferers to regurgitate mid-meal, even with taking measures such as a special chewing technique, using tiny bites and avoiding certain foods.

Middle school lunches must have really been a treat for him.
I am not going to say that Smith cant reestablish himself as a good player in our new system.....however, he was complete trash last year with the Raiders.
Someone tell me this is a good signing. This is one I don't care for

So a couple good years in Seattle. Not so great with the Raiders. I wonder how the Raiders used him. I've tried looking it up, seems like they had him at MLB at times. I can see him getting exposed there. But as a WILL linebacker, he'd do fine imo.

Yeah this shows he's a good fit for our system given how he did in Seattle. Saleh was quality control there so he knows how Smith fits

what did he do in seattle other than not be a starter very often?

Had hell of a post season run, that is all I remember from the guy.

Common...we know what those guys bring...again one of the worst run D's in the history of the NFL.
This franchise is just giving away money to average players.
He's decent. Happy we have depth though. Having Bellore lead our defense last year was so damn embarrassing

I'd rather go back to giving away money to players who dont want to play football
Nvm...his contract was posted about.

No he wasn't lol. He lead the team in tackles, getting more than Khalil Mack.

Heck, im thinking when u factor in the amount of guaranteed $13M and his signing bonus, It looks like $3.5 million(same as Raiders paid him).. But even at $4.3M, dats an $800k raise for a guy that knows the defense and has been productive.. Still a GREAT signing IMO

Agreed!
