It's an expensive deal
Nope. No it's not...and regardless he was going to be our backup WILL anyway.

This.
Well, it was a good one week run.

Happy for Ray-Ray though.

Hate to lose him but if there was one starter I could live with losing it would be him. Still, its early and an injury like this really hurts. Obviously Foster now gets a bigger role and Ray-Ray Armstrong is a valuable player again and I like him and I keep reading he is having a strong camp and a good fit in this D. Losing Garnett really hurts short term and long term. Ughhhh

This. Hoping these guys can stay healthy & stay together rest of the season
Bad deal all the way around. Losing smith only hurts the team. If ray or Reuben couldn't take snaps from him, they didn't deserve to start yet. I had no problem with smith ahead of foster on the depth chart, pt should be earned not given.

I see Levis is still cursed.

Field there still sucks...I guess that's what happens when you decide monster truck rallies and concerts are deemed as important as the sport the stadium was built for.

?He tore a pec tackling?
Referencing the field conditions at the most recent soccer tournament there about a week ago as this field condition has been an ongoing issue since the place opened.

Agree....but looking at this situation from a "big picture" perspective, it will challenge Lynch and Co. to go out and find some depth for that position, either through adding a FA or picking up a player cut late in training camp. The good news about the Niners' new defensive scheme is that it is relatively simple so a new player may not take that much time to get up to speed (so to speak)...

Smith was having a good camp so this definitely sucks for him but as far as its effect on the team, it is too early to tell.

I guess at this point, after watching the NFL for over 40 years, I'm looking at good organizations as those that deal with adversity better than the poor ones. New England, for example, always has its share of injuries and they seem to plug in new guys all the time. So...I'm looking forward to seeing how Lynch and front office responds. This is a good challenge for the organization at this stage.

Cheers!

C'mon Malcom!
Be like Lott.
Cut that pec off, put a band aid on it, and get back out there.

Seriously though.... this will at least allow the team to keep one more talented LB or D lineman that they may have had to cut.
One good LB wasn't going to play as much anyway, but it sucks for Malcom and the depth we had.
Was looking forward to seeing him vindicate himself . Tired of my friends (?) who are Raiders fans saying how bad he was and we were soooo ignorant to sign a lousy player for that much cash.
Things are falling into place for Foster's breakout ROY season.

11.5M is guaranteed. He was going to start for sure. The only question was for how long. It sounds like the Niners much preferred to bring Foster along slowly and not give him anything.
