according to who? He played outside in college, and Brooks sucked in a 4-3 with Cincy.

In this D (it's a little different than the standard 4-3), the SAM is more like a 3-4 OLB, who sets the edge, covers a little, and rushes a little. The Mike is the best and smartest LB on the team, and the Will is relied on to cover and fly to the ball.

well we will have to wait and see. No way Brooks is on the roster come week 1

I just don't see brooks having the speed and being able to cover as a sam in this system. The position just screams Eli Harold.

Harold didn't transition at LB very well last year, his role should just be as a situational pass rusher.

I think he was decent at getting after the QB...just couldn't finish.

Brooks has been our SAM for 7 years, and has played well at it, making a Pro Bowl in 2013. Is he past his prime? Yes. Is he still the best SAM on the team? We'll see.

Why so much hate for Brooks?
I love this deal.

Wait, after hitting up 5 free agent they still have $96 million?

Oh, how sweet it is!

And all of these are front loaded contacts. For instance, Kyle Juszczyk, has $7.5 paid up front so from years 2-4, it's only a $4.5M hit. Garcon, same concept. In fact, all of these contracts will be structured in a similar manner. A potential, $121.5M is an insane amount of cap space and can be stretched out sooooo many ways.

We haven't made a dent so far!

Really looking forward to a big day and some surprises!

Why not Brooks at DE, Mitchell and Jones on the inside, DeFo at the other end

Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo
LB Malcolm Smith's deal w/ SF a strong one: Five years, $26.5 million with $13m guaranteed, source says. (Up from his $3.5 per year w/ Oak.)

Why so much hate for Brooks?

It's not hate for brooks. The Sam in this system isn't a passrusher. It's a guy who sets the edge and can cover tight ends. Brooks can set the edge but I don't believe he has the speed to play in soaceZ. I thought Harold did a good job at linebacker last year outside of passrushing. I think brooks would be best as a rotational passrusher.
