He was obviously gonna be cut so nice gesture by 49ers to at least give him a headstart on possibly catching on with another team this soon b4 final roster cutdown.

Should have never been signed - he was just taking reps away from the other guys.
terrible signing. i remember when some of us b***hed about it. we were told. he was signed for his knowledge of the defense we were running. sorry. you sign someone cuz they are a good player. to much money. bad player. good riddance

seeing how well he played last week, i can see why they took him up for another year. he always had the talent
Yeah, strange post. Obviously night & day players, talent levels and situations.

The Malcolm Smith release wasn't clean, by the way: Even after this offseason's contract restructure, the 49ers incur $4.2 million of dead money. Smith's 2019 cap hit would've been $5.54 million, so the 49ers save $1.34 million against the cap. (OTC)

I don't get how it was a terrible signing when we had so much money. I could see if we were cash strapped but that wasn't the case. Plus he probably helped some of the guys learn the system since he played in the same system his whole career.

eh, some hindsight there, my friend. Had he stayed healthy he could have helped out when he first arrived. He knew the system and had been a decent, not great player.
Money is irrelevant. We had plenty to spend.

All that money clears after this year. No long-term problems. Marathe being Marathe.

They were going to be clear of that contract next year anyways after the restructure.

I think a lot of us forget how much Lynch had to "take what he could get" too in his first offseason. A complete rebuild with a new HC and GM with the highest state taxes in the country turns off some talented players.

Because we only got 35 tackles out of it.
