Franchising him should be a layup decision in lieu of a long term deal.

If he wants to go back to his hometown and be with his family, I can see the front office allowing it, as they should.

???

This is the NFL.

There is zero chance the Niners let him go to a team they very likely may play in the playoffs just to be nice guys.

If he doesn't want to be here now then why keep a disgruntle player?

Evil said the bears don't want to dump their kicker and have $5 mill in dead money so hopefully it's a mute point

Gould is on the record saying he loved the Niners and the Bay Area. He sure has a funny way of showing he's "disgruntled"

I meant that in regards If the bears wanted him, offered him a contract and we franchised him even though he wanted to be back with his family..
That's all
Hopefully we retain him and get his family here with him.

If he's franchised it's virtually a mortal lock that he will not be offered a contract by anybody other than the Niners. They'd have to give the Niners two 1st for a kicker.

Bears have $20M in cap room for next season. OT Bobby Massie is FA and needs to be resigned. (He made $6M this past season.) CB Bryce Callahan had a nice year and he also needs to be resigned. He made $1.9M this past season and was a top 15 CB. He is going to be tough to sign because his performance makes him worth something in the $10M range. Bears are reportedly going to try to keep him but may have to restructure some guys to do it.

So, do the math. With Parker counting $5.1M in dead money if they cut him, there is no room keep important guys and sign Gould and sign. Of course there is also the matter of having money to sign draft picks.

They could let Massie and/or Callahan walk but they would have to replace them with draft picks. Chicago only has five picks this season, IIRC. For a young team on the rise that was only a blocked field goal away from advancing in the playoffs, they have to keep as much of that team in place as they can. It is hard to envision a scenario in which they absorb Parker's dead money hit AND sign Gould for what he is going to be worth in FA.

Gould stays in SF.

if they let him go. they are dumb. what is sad. many will be ok with it since the front office can do no wrong

if we lose him, then we can listen to lynch saying how we prudently tried to keep him. oh. i know of no fan who roots or wants bad things to happen, no need to as those things have been taking care of themselves for the last few years

So if the opposite happens and they keep him does he get credit or is it 25 posts about how AA and Ward suck so it doesn't matter?

I also have seen no fan who thinks they can do no wrong. Strawman.

i always give credit when its due. i did with jimmy and i did with sherman. if they lock him up. i will. nice try. oh and while it may upset you that i am right but they do suck. other than trying to provoke not sure what you point is. oh i think i just answered my own question

Be nice if you came up with a new shtick instead of strawmanning people who don't want Lynch fired as supporting every move. Fixating on a guy who won't be here in 2019 and a guy who very well could get dealt also seems to be a waste of time and energy.

Not for nothing CC but it was Lynch who signed Gould in the first place. Your pre-crapping on Lynch for possibly not resigning a guy he brought in. Lynch made the decision to let Dawson walk for more money to a division rival....then brought in Gould cheaper who has had possibly the best two years for all kickers since he put on a niner uniform.
Gould has been by far Lynchs best signing since becoming our GM, Sherman is the second best signing. He has pretty much missed on all other FA signings outside of Person and the 2 mentioned prior. Hopefully Armstead gets his injury fixed and can pass a physical by the cut off date of guaranteeing his 5th year salary. I don't want Armstead making 9+ million for what he brings to the table.
Lynch obviously is going to cut Gilliam+Marsh, he structured their contracts where we take no dead money cutting them next year. Malcolm Smith and Earl Mitchell should be cut, and not June 1st cuts, we have tons of cap space, so why spread out the hit, when we can just take the whole hit now, and then have more space available going forward. Garcon I would look to trade for what ever we could get, player or draft pick, if nothing is worth while, I would just cut Garcon as well. If we once again just take the whole hit in 2019, then we still free up a little money (around 1 million) but we clear up tons of money going forward.

Love that he is already crapping on Lynch for something that is not official yet because the season isn't over. Gotta keep that agenda going.
Attack the post, not the poster.

Also, let's talk about what HAS happened, not what we fear (hope?) may happen.

No brainer.

He was the deciding factor in numerous games for us. Absolute money between the uprights.

I wonder if it's easy for FO to overlook his position when they've been so spoiled...

Resigning gould is a no brainer. If the front office doesnt do this they are simply cheap a holes and incapable of proper talent evaluation.

Fronk says hi.
