I'm saying how you can free up cap space. There's a bunch of ways you can do it. People gotta realize certain moves while gives you more space now, can hurt you a yr from now.

My example with Ford/Richburg is proof of that. They had a really nice rip cord in that Ford contract but instead restructured, which is basically taking a portion of a player's base salary and tagging onto his signing bonus. More gtd cash.

I agree Gould's situation is different...I wasn't trying to compare the situations. Sorry if it came off like that

100%. The decision on Ford - especially in hindsight - was abysmal. The 49ers could've effectively wiped $20M off the books this offseason. Instead, best we can do now is cut Ford freeing up $6M-ish and take a $14M bath in dead cap. Absolutely BRUTAL.

But re: Gould, this is a win all around...unless his play completely falls off a cliff the next two years, but you can say that about any player...

He's already been taking off a cliff the last two seasons. He hasn't played well since he got paid in 2019.

Just another dumb move to extend a kicker that can't kick over 50 yards. Incompetent front office

That is a valid point.

No it isn't. He made a 52 yarder *this year." and his career long is 58.
Last 2 seasons he is 2 for 6 on 50+ yard kicks. Seems pretty valid to me.
So apparently a new symptom of Covid is missing field goals and extra points.

Yeah lets get a guy who can hit from 60 but misses 30% of his attempts. Smart.

Looked up Vizcain, the kicker we signed. Has a monster leg. Kicked a ball off a tee 94 yards. Monster leg. So if we need a 60+ FG, he could do it on Sunday lol.

Curious about the terms... hopefully the fact that it is full guaranteed allowed the bulk of the money to hit the cap in year 2.
3m to sign, 500k salary in 2021 and 3.75m salary in 2022 would be ideal.

We will need ten of them to beat the Seatoots this Sunday.

Maybe we should just draft a QB who can kick as well. Killing two birds with one stone will save all that cap space.
Moves him from 2nd highest to 13th and liable to be a couple spots lower after fee agency. Good for Gould and likely a bigger savings in year 2021 than expected and every bit will count in order to up Warner and sign Williams and others.

We need someone else doing kickoffs. Wish makes short kicks and it seems like his punt averages have come down. I wonder if having to do kickoffs has anything to do with it? Our special teams suck as it is, hopefully this gets fixed by next season.

He can't have a $500K salary in 2021, his minimum base salary has to be $1.075M.
Good luck Wishnowsky.

Lol, can you do a 'drop kick' for a PAT ?

why make it hard, just go for 2 or turn over on downs

I would play like you only have 3 downs and throw a strategic interception on 3rd down if you don't get a first on the first two downs.
