Branch's quote on Chicago cap space does not agree with overthecap. Branch says $20M, overthecap says $7,299,741. I'll go with overthecap.

Bears way overpaid Allen Robinson and now it is biting them in the butt. They also have $22.3M tied up in Mack. Trey Burton gets $8.3M for his year of disappointment.

Yes, there are some major complicating factors.

It depends on what OTC is figuring ATM. The cap is projected to raise between $187M and $191.1M. They'll be fine like everyone. We're talking about a PK here not a FQB. Nobody goes in cap hell anymore.

How much do you think Bryce Callahan will get?

He's a slot CB. South of $9M. For reference, our own SCB is paid $2.95M.

The Bears slapped Gould in the face. Now they're desperate to get him back, and he wants to go back? Have a little dignity Robbie...

lol has a kicker ever held out? I dont care how long hes been in the league, the other players should duct tape him to the goal post if hes disgruntled about playing here. Were a team on the rise, we play in great weather, and we actually respected and valued him when no one else did. Not to mention hed be getting paid elite K money.

He has no room to pout about it.

He has played on the edge, although with Fuller and Amukamara already in place outside, he spent most of his time inside.

It is worth noting that all three Chicago CBs finished the season in a virtual tie for overall ranking, 7 thru 9. By comparison, K' Williams was ranked #59.

As you know, slot is becoming a more dangerous starting point in many offenses. Callahan not only covered very well but had great success rushing the passer from the slot. So while that is not a major component of a slot corner, it is worth noting only one other corner rushed the passer as much or with similar effectiveness (86.6 rating).

All of that adds up to a problem for Chicago if they want to resign him AND sign Gould AND any other 21 FAs they have this season, plus draft picks, etc.

Yeah, he's terrific. He should be at the top of the SCB market for sure. I'll guess $6-7M.

Yeah, they, like the Hawks, Jags, Rams, Cowboys, Philly, etc. have had to/will need to prioritize but there's a million ways to manipulate a rising cap now.

I don't want to drag this little dance out all day, but, yes, the cap can be manipulated. We've all seen that.

My point is the same as what Gould noted; it will take a lot of things to happen if he goes back to ChiTown.

As to Callahan, a $7M deal would put him outside the top 25 CB contracts in the league - Brent Grimes level deal - the #84 CB in the league. That would be an insult and he might just walk. They don't have room to franchise him. I'm guessing he gets $9M which is what Prince gets.

Even if it is "only" a $7M deal, that takes all of Chicago's current cap space until the start making moves. Will they add another $5M hit to that nut in order to sign Gould?

I'm doubtful.

Will probably shank a few kicks this year if he isn't happy. FGs are pretty crucial for our offense, since we're horrible in the red zone.

Never discount the idea of a huge paycheck and your family getting to move back to what they likely still consider home.
Last I checked Bears still didn't cut Parkey. I'm sure Gould wants to go somewhere which is close to his heart and good for his family.

However he's been here for two years and certainly seems to get along with the guys in the locker room. I think if he's tagged there are no hard feelings and he does his job like the pro he is. The idea that he misses kicks on purpose is ridiculous. No pro would do that...certainly not a kicker. They make money on being reliable. Guys miss kicks from time to time...when you try to miss a kick on purpose it will not somehow improve your market value and you sure as s**t can't tell a team in free agency "i missed in on purpose"

Hopefully we sign him to a decent length deal so there are no possible ill feelings and he and his family have stability. Chicago is great..but maybe after the extreme cold they just went through perhaps they're ready for a warmer winter situation.
