Just like they let Mitchell, Garcon, Gilliam, etc. walk early so they can be free agents and get jobs elsewhere instead of cutting them post-June 1st and acquiring more cap space.
But we'll see. It could go either way. Are they all business like BB or are they going to let him walk?
Don't have to wait till June 1st to cut those guys. If they needed the money they could've designated them June 1st cuts.

NC, Garcon and Mitchell were options declined, and Gilliam was on last year of deal, couldn't June 1 him. Plus it really doesn't make a big difference in the end, since teams can carryover cap room, plus the 49ers saved $11.3M and $12M in 2020 and 2021 by declining Garcon's option.

For us to take on the 1 year guaranteed salary owed to Parkey, along with the 2 follow up seasons with no guaranteed money (Hence easy to cut if he sucks in '19) to go with us trading Gould to them, perhaps we could get a 4th or a 5th round pick?
Parkey is owed 3.5 million in '19 if we trade for him, so not too much money, and he is normally a decent kicker. If we could get a 4th to do it, I would.
No, I'd rather tag Gould, and work out a LT deal than trade him for Cody Parkey.

Glad you're here. So you can designate a post June cut? But doesn't that mean the player isn't a FA until that time? And why are there such large discrepancies with pre and post June 1st cuts?

If they are willing to let Gould walk, then tag him anyways and demand a draft pick from Chicago to trade his rights to them.

You can designate Post June 1, they become a FA immediately, but the team carries his entire cap number until June 2nd, and then they get the cap room.

Ohhhh. I'm adding this to the Team Information thread. Thanks!!
Or if you'd like to do a little write up in layman's terms, I'll add to the OP.

- NFL Pick 'em
If I were John Lynch right now, I would be bidding up the offer on Adrian Amos, Bryce Callahan and Robbie Gould. All three are FA, and Chicago, with limited cap room, would be hard pressed to sign them all. Run up the price and then take the best value. We could use any one of the three. A bit tricky to pull off but doable.

If I was John Lynch I would just franchise-tagged Robbie Gould and get a good night's sleep

Just franchise him, there's nothing worse then having a terrible kicker
