It is sickening that we passed on Mahomes and Watson. Scouting is everything and we dropped the ball.

Well you obviously didn't just see what Solomon Thomas did in his 3rd year in the 3rd quarter of a preseason game. That should cheer you up.

If scouting was everything, we dont get a player like Kittle in the 5th. Drafts are a crapshoot most of the time. A GM hitting only half of his first round picks is pretty common these days. You should see the first round picks the Cards GM has drafted and he still has a job.

Cause he's inconsistent Vs the run inside
Solomon Thomas looked good to playing at DT/NT and good solid a tackle.

Yup. Sure, he's better there. That doesn't make him great at it. Just better than the trash he offers on the edge.

#3 overall pick, and we are happy that he is somewhat competing in a preseason game?!

This guy should be playing 3-4 plays of a preseason game or even sitting up in the booth with Bosa & Kittle (5th rounder)!

We passed on Pat Mahomes for this!!!!?

It's sad that this is where we're at with him. Does anybody really see this dude getting a 2nd contract with us?

This is the #3 pick in the draft and we're congratulating him for having a mixed game against a bad offensive line's backups. This is how we treat mid round guys like Blair.

yep, unreal how low we have sunk with him and how low our bar is now set with the third pick in the draft,.
I'm still thinking this guy is AA 2.0 will develop into a starter and can help the team but won't live up to #3. Really like to see the head bobbing at the end of that highlight though shows he's getting his passion back

No argument here

It baffles me that people on here don't understand what a zone run is given who our head coach is.

"BuT hE gOt DoUBlEd"

Yes, that's the entire point. Interior players get doubled on those type of runs. It's their job to defeat those doubles, and when the interior player can't hold up, he becomes a liability. Hence why the coaches struggle with Solly's position.

That is not 100% true.

A lot of the time your job is to hold ground, or even hold a double to enable pursuit by your team mates. Quite often you don't WANT split a double team.

Even if your job is to split a double team, the NFL is riddled with pro-bowl DLmen that don't routinely beat double teams. Hell the HOF is loaded with them too.

That is literally the HARDEST thing to do on defense. Use one player to negate two players on offense.

IF you get one guy that can beat a double team 10% to 15% of the time and you can put him in the HOF. You basically have (what we believe is) Peak Aaron Donald.

For perspective, Aaron Donald took around 900 snaps and had a hurry, sack or tackle roughly 170 times. He spent roughly 70% of his time double teamed. So around 18% of his snaps were impact plays.
I still don't see the fascination with this guy. What are you guys seeing that I'm not? Thomas played the entire first half vs a very mediocre offensive line. Nothing stood out to me.

"Defeating a double" is ambiguous and contextual and changes depending on the type of runs(gaps vs scoops). Defeating the double can be splitting the ace, defeating the drive blocker or creating a pile up.

That wasn't the point of the post, but I'm passed it now.
