How many of those first rounders were played out of position that made them first round picks and surrounded by first rounders?
Thomas may not be worth #3 overall but he'll be making plays this year on this defense. It's pathetic how many 49er "fans" run in this thread to try to sh*t on the kid.
"Impact this season" is not good enough. Not even close.
He needs to be a consensus Pro Bowl player. Anything less than that — he deserves the shots he gets.
Being an above average starter will not do.

He is set up for success. If he can't get it done as 4th option this year (Bosa/Ford/Buck being 1,2,3) then it is time to bash. I've restrained bashing but times up.

How many draft picks can we get for a great person? That has to count for something according to the fanbase

Yep. And when Arik gets to go out there he better play light out with that $9 million in his pocket.Originally posted by kansasninerfan:Originally posted by LasVegasWally:Agree

I'm so fired up to see the very first snap on Sunday on defense in Big W9:
Who's with me?
Armstead ----- Jones ----- Buckner ---- Thomas
Who's with me?

With how much draft capital we've invested in the DL, I expect a top 10 unit.

I was about to make a post asking for people to post their guess for the 4 DL on the first snap of the game on Sunday.
Here's mine: AA - Day - Buckner - Solly

I was going to go with Day too but Jones is bigger right? Maybe go Taylor instead?

Unofficial depth chart has it as Ford, Day, Buckner ,Armstead for what it's worth.

As you uncovered with your great Twitter research and based on what we saw in the preseason, I think they want the knife-iest guy at nose. They really want that 2i penetrating like a mad man.
Day is best at that. Jones is not bad. Taylor is by far the worst out of the 3 in that role.

Get your shots in while you still can. Thomas is going to make starting player impact this season.

Actually, it was a shot at Lynch but whatever.
So, who gets to decide who's a "true" fan?
I'm a 49ers fan, not a Solomon Thomas fan. I guess you're too emotionally invested in the guy to accept that any criticism faced by him is well-deserved.

Pretty embarrassing for lynch, even if Thomas turns into a good player. Just not a need.
I think thomas will be ok. But I hate the idea that mahomes fans only happened after the fact. I listened to at least 10 podcasts/interviews of scouts and local media who thought mahomes would be the next favre. I can see why Kyle might think that he wouldn't be a system fit but to me, if you're taking a controversial pick anyways (tweener) might as well take the guy who might be favre

My post was a reply to you but it was directed at countless people who seem to prefer being right over the 49ers being better.
Solomon Thomas is a talented player who has been through some sh*t. He's entering his 3rd year after a tragedy that would f*ck up most people regardless of what job they have.
The desire for so many to see this kid cut or to sh*t on him before at least seeing what he can do this year when he's clearly in a better mental state just annoys me.
And I'm sorry, maybe I'm not the "fan" police but to me as a 49ers fan you should support the players on this team. It doesn't mean blind support or being a homer but it does mean that until a player is off the team you should want them to be the best they can be.
Thomas has been moved around to a position he wasn't comfortable in, missed valuable offseason practice time as a rookie because of the stupid college rule and then had his sister's suicide to deal with last year to the point where he was contemplating suicide. The results on the field sucked but is that shocking to anyone given what we know now?
The kid looks to be in a much better place now. Cutting him does nothing for us but taking on dead money. It makes literally 0 sense outside of "fans" being able to put a fork in him and say he was a total bust for us.
How about we not worry about unofficial depth charts and see what he actually does this year? He's on the team. If he plays well it makes us better. It makes the 49ers better.
Even if he doesn't play like the #3 overall pick he can still help make this team dangerous on passing downs and make a big impact.
As for being too emotionally attached to Solly for fair criticism? Not at all...just make the criticism fair. Maybe you haven't checked this thread out too much but a lot of the criticism here is just blind hate cuz he hasn't lived up to #3 overall status. Even after he plays well you have people coming in here pretending he did nothing or just posting "bust". How is that fair or constructive?
Thomas has not played well. Nobody will argue against that. He needs to play better, much better. He seems to be in a much better place physically and mentally which is the biggest factor. Let's see what he actually does regardless of where he's listed on the depth chart?
Bosa isn't a starter on the depth chart either...should we worry about that?
