And both were #2 and #3 on their big board. Yikes.
Gotta remember where we were in Spring of 2017. AA didn't even look like he would be average at the time. Bucker was slotted to play LDE. Thomas seemed like the guy at 3-tech. With Foster, there were no questions about the talent, but it was the other stuff.
I think (or hope) Pettis is the last straw. I hope we stick to drafting guys that are high character and want to play football, to complement their immense talent. Lynch openly admitted he would rather have Foster after signing Kwon and saying we are paying the price shows he is very well aware of how those screw ups hurt the team. Ever see Baalke do anything like that?

Kyle is a great coach but I been thinking for a while now that maybe it be best to let to scouts focus on who to draft. They know the type of player Kyle likes. Now let them do the work. Kyle falls in love with a players tape and tends to overlook other qualities. Joe Williams was the first warning sign of this.
And let them handle the draft board. We've made some amazing picks. But we've had a tendency of trading up for players that we probably didn't have to.

Listen dudes, if you weren't scratching your head when we drafted Thomas..... you should have been. f**king obviously. It wasn't a position of need, and even if he was a f**king beast in college, It still wasn't a position of need, on a team with a lot of needs.
The fact that he has underperformed in addition to not really being needed in the first place is salt in the wound.
I'm not hating on Lynch and shanahan, we all make mistakes. But this was a big one. I loved the foster pick, but didn't realize how injury prone he really is.

Biggest problem from day 1 right here.
And yet people will argue against this until they are blue in the face. It was always a redundant pick, regardless if he turned out to not be a bust.

There are a number of ways to go on this.
The incredible turnaround by AA and Ward is one take - Can this guy turn into the incredible player he was in college??
Another take is he even worth the money he is being paid?? [IMO - he isn't]
Finally, what could we possible get for him in a deal?? {IMO - it would depend if we can resign AA]
Flat out cutting him is VERY stupid at best. You don't invest that heavily and walk away without at least getting something in return.
A). Keep him and Hope he can become what we all hoped [IMO, VERY doubtful]
B). Resign him to a VERY friendly cap deal. {Possible]
C). Trade him for a mid-round draft pick. [Could happen]
I'm sure there a lot of other scenarios out there.
Thoughts??

Let's be honest about that draft class it was pretty underwhelming. Not a single quality offensive lineman in the first round. A bunch of underperforming receivers in the top ten. The chiefs killed it by gambling on a reach for Mahomes. To Lynch's credit he dodged the hype on Trubisky and got picks for a move down which turned in to Warner and Foster. Foster didn't work out but was a beast of a player to get that late in the first. So we ended up netting Warner and ST for that pick. That is pretty close to the value we would have got from Adams or Lattimore who are the only other players that would have made sense for us at the time outside of one of the receivers. So if handling that pick is the worst thing Lynch has done that means we are in pretty dang good shape with him. And to STs credit dude has a high motor and appears to love football.

Really??
Ask Kittle, Warner, Bosa, a few UDFA like Breida, excellent trades like Dee Ford, Kwon and FA Sherman
I think he's learned a hell of a lot and then some.

Foster was a huge gamble that backfired.
Thomas was considered one of the better prospects coming out that year.
Live and learn is what I say, at least armstead is beasting now.

Some people complain whenever we take a chance on a player that had some off field issues in college and then they turn around and want us to take a chance on a receiver that's been suspended several times in the NFL. Sometimes you have to take a chance on these young college kids and hoe their problems are behind them. Remember, a lot of Foster's issues were related to his girl friend. For whatever reason, he couldn't or wouldn't dump her and it continued to be a major problem.

Ya, he's going to need to be a good part of the rotation for the playoffs.
