Let's just hope Solomon plays so well this yr that the F.O wishes it had exercised its option.

Thomas definitely wasn't drafted onto a stacked Dline...which is why he was drafted. That DLine the year prior was one of the worst ever as our defense was historically bad vs the run and overall.

We'll never get a good understanding in what happened with Thomas but it is what it is. Unfortunately he's better off going somewhere else or if he wants to stay here for a cheap backup contract I'd certainly keep him for that.

It's been pretty well documented how devastating his sisters suicide was to him and hes flat out said it negatively impacted his play. Doesn't change his rookie year play though where I agree that moving him around a lot may have hurt, probably should have been used exclusively inside but the need was on the edge.

well it did already have Buck and AA, is what he means.

Kinlaw is a DT. It'll be Bosa and Ford on the outiside on passing downs. Maybe Kin see's some action on 1st and 2nd downs on the outside.

Maiocco thinks the base could be Kinlaw and Jones on the inside with Armstead and Bosa on the outside. On passing downs, Ford replaces AA who moves inside and Jones comes out. AA played more snaps at end than tackle but he has a lot of experience at both.

Good luck running on that lol

Thing is his rookie season may have still been disappointing for #3 overall pick - especially when we compare it to someone like Bosa's rookie season but it was far away Thomas' best season.

I think end of the day people(and I know it included me) thought he could be a Michael Bennett type of player who is able to play well vs the run and pass at big end and move down inside on pass downs. He just never showed that ability on the outside.

He flashed on the inside but certainly not what you want from a top 3 pick. Whether his sister's suicide completely derailed his NFL career we'll never know obviously it's not something that can be changed and we can't go back and know what he would look like had that not happened his 2nd season.

I think Thomas can still play well inside but what made him so good was his athletic ability vs guards/centers. On the outside he's not big enough or fast enough to have much impact vs the OTs who are used to playing vs much better edge rushers but I do think his development inside was hurt by his snaps on the outside.

But like I said...at this point it is what it is...We took Kinlaw so that took any chance of him starting out the window. He needs to get his body and mind right and make sure the snaps he does see next year(hopefully inside only) that he make them count.

I'm not gonna hold out hope though. Shame cuz he's a great guy but he's been a major disappointment.
Well, I am glad for the most part 49er fans have been very supportive of him. I know most rookies that have struggled like him have generated significantly more negative attention.

I hope he rocks this year, but more then anything i am ready for him to either put it together or to move on so he can re-boot his career.

I see no reason he cant be produce as a part of the DT rotation. Lets hope he is focused and ready to go.
Hopefully he doesn't have any more setbacks. Physically, he reminds me of Ray McDonald. A little under sized but quick. Just needs to get his head clear of all the distractions. He did start to play a little better toward the end of last year.

Fixed
I never understood why ST was mocked to the 49ers in 90% of the mock drafts. Just because he had a good Sun Bowl? It's the same with Trubisky, who all of a sudden was a top prospect over Deshaun Watson.
And was even more confused when Lynch actually drafted him. Truth said I wanted Jamaal Adams when the Browns picked Myles as I saw him as the second best player.
To pay Thomas 8M because he is a top 3 pick is painful, that money could've been used to extend somebody useful.

They will have paid ST ~$28 million total, but this year he "only" costs $4.3 million = they would save $4.3 mil by cutting him

Did we trade him yet?

But safety isn't a premier position, QB is!
And we needed a QB at the time with both Mahomes and Watson available it's too bad Shanahan thought it was better to pay Cousins $30+ million a year instead of finding a young QB
Without ST we don't get to draft bosa. Keep that in mind!
