I have a feeling he'll still be a Niner next season.

I would bring him back for the minimum, with an opportunity to get as much playing time as he earns. It would not hurt my feelings one bit if he just left, and we can turn the page from him like we did with R. Foster. Undersized DT's are a dime a dozen, sadly we didn't need him when we drafted him, one can only imagine if we had drafted Watson or Mahomes, or lord forbid traded down more and got more picks and ANY other player than Thomas.

Thomas has been a bust, no doubt. He wouldn't even be considered a good pick if he had been taken in the 3rd round. However, he was highly rated in that draft and was considered a 1st round talent by most. Maybe a later 1st round but still a top pick. He just hasn't turned out to be what they expected because of injuries and personal issues involving his sister.
AA has been a solid contributor and would be considered a good pick if he had been selected in the 2nd round. Again he was picked too high but he isn't a total bust. He's in the game most of the time and makes plays whether it's an occasional sack or a pressure or stopping the run. He's not great but he's a starter.
I disagree on your take with Solly. Injuries and his personal loss are not the reason he sucks. Solly suvks because he is a tweener that doesn't fit what this defense does. Yeah his personal loss set him back when it happened but you can blame his lackluster career on that and injuries. Solly played Defo's position in college and the Niners moved him to edge when he got here. He didn't have the quick burst or enough power to be effective. Maybe in a different defense he plays better but it was a mismatch from the start. I wouldn't bring him back and I hope the Niners don't overpay to bring him back either. They can get better production by resigning Hyder and drafting a mid round DT to replace Solly.

I bet he's on the Jets next season.
Why would he join the guy who couldn't figure out how to use him properly?
It's possible that Saleh actually got the best out of him. That's how bad Solly is
Solly was a dominate NT in college, so good he was a consensus top 5 pick and Saleh used him as a RDE for most of his career here.
Personally that's not getting the best out of him but setting him up to fail. Still remember saleh having him cover slot corners only to fail weekly year one.
Jamarcus Russel was a dominate QB in college and a consensus top 5 pick
The point is busts happen. Solomon is a great athlete and in college that will make you look all world but once your lining up against all the best athletes in the world you better have something more than an impressive bench press. Solomon is another workout warrior
Agree. Also I'll just add that when you win the lotto you tend to get lazy. Being drafted and getting bunko bucks at a young age can alter their behavior from workout warrior to a party harty person- or at least maybe not as dedicated to working out as he was in college.
This doesn't apply to Thomas at all. He isn't lazy at all. He just isn't good.

I agree he's been a bust and I said that in my first sentence. I'm not saying the personal problems and the injuries are the only reason he's been a bust. but they sure contributed to it. The fact doesn't change that he was considered a first round pick that year by nearly everyone. As I said, maybe #3 overall was too high but the Niners felt they needed another D linemen and grabbed him. It didn't work out like so many draft picks around the league. I'm not going to blame Lynch for taking what they felt was a need.

Sounds more than reasonable considering his lack of production.

Now he's all excited about how much he can make in free agency. No reflection on how much he got and how little he gave the 49ers. "Solly" my ass, good riddance.

Both of them suck beyond compare
Except for AA has a 85 million dollar contract.
and has the ability to actually get a pressure and 10 sacks in a year. I know that's an anomaly but Thomas is so much worse. I would take givens and DJJ over him too
