What a stupid pick from the get go, dude never was even worth the 3rd overall, if he didn't go to Stanford and had a class with Lynch he wouldn't have been taken there. Rookie GM mistake at the time

He was literally ranked in the top 5 in every ranking I've seen. I don't understand why that is so hard to comprehend for some of you.

It's apparently easier for people to believe that a first time HC and GM would select someone at #3 overall that wasn't ranked top 5 by virtually everyone and only select him because he was in some class with the GM at one point.

He was called a redundant tweener by many when he was drafted and many saw an obvious need for a qb rather than drafting the same position with the first pick three years in a row.

I thought it was a bad pick then and I think it was a bad pick now.

he means nothing to me. amazing we over came blowing two first round picks that year
Good luck to ST. Not his fault the 49ers completely misjudged his ability to play the game.

How about the fact that it was a redundant pick? If the Chargers had the 3rd pick this season, you think they would draft Zack Wilson? He's literally ranked in the top 5 in every ranking I have seen.

We had a need for a big DE and has was BPA. He was a tweener who just didn't work out. End of story.

He wasnt a big DE. Thanks.

He was 275 coming out of college. We wanted a Big DE clone like Seattle had. You're Welcome.

And to further prove my point, he line up on the edge 71% of the time his rookie year. He was immediately put behind Tank Carradine on the depth chart too. It's quite clear they thought he could be a big end.

This. We wanted a big end, he was supposed to be like Bennett from the Hawks for us.

But he just didnt work out there. A lot of us said move him back do DT, and he still played bad there as well or got hurt.

He was a bust, simple as that, move on...
This may be the only fanbase that will defend a flat out bust but will attempt to chase a pro bowl caliber QB out of town

What probowl caliber QB have we chased out of town? Garcia? I guess Montana too but our fanbase wasn't trying to do that.

You asked "who defended him?"

I was answering that question. Nice try.

No, Aj said it was the fanbase, which is just wrong. So there's no reason to defend that with, well one poster said so.

It would be like me calling out our fanbase because billbird said that Trent isn't worth a lot of money and wont get paid.

Alex was far from a Pro Bowl caliber QB when he was chased out of town. We both know that.
