At least ST took the field and had a few bright moments.

Jenkins was a disaster right from the start.

I see your AJ Jenkins and raise you a Rashaun Woods.

BTW, RIP Terry Donahue.

I would have assumed the Sam Bowie comparison would have illustrated this point, but here is a football comparison for you.....

Using your logic, Jim Druckenmiller was a bigger bust than Ryan Leaf.

Ouch. I think some (myself included) let the fact that he is a good guy get in the way of rating him appropriately. Its easy to say quitters like Balmer and Woods and complete non producers are bigger busts. But a guy who worked hard and had personal tragedy but failed to even be a solid rotational guy, emotions prevent some from labeling him a bust. But its undeniable. He is the biggest in history. Had he just been a solid starter, then Jenkins and others could be brought into the conversation. But at number 3 overall and you can't start nor be a key contributor (Ronald Blair, DJ Jones level), that is a huge bust. Being a nice guy doesn't change it.

This is a weird take. You are literally saying someone who actually played in multiple games and didnt actually suck so bad as a Vernon Gholston but just should have been a 3-5th round pick is worse than AJ one catch Jenkins.

Biggest bust in history? Excusing Drunk and Balmer, think of what an actual 2nd WR option would of done for Kap. Maybe he could could of actually became a two read QB rather than one.

Do you guys factor in who we could have had, rather than the guy we took, in that given year with the same pick?

IMO, that requires a crystal ball, which none of us have. It is interesting fodder for discussion but it should not change the value of the pick that was made.

Tell that to Sam Bowie. I'm sure he'd love if people forgot who was selected after him.

It definitely plays a huge part in the discussion around "biggest bust". But it's the combination of Mahomes and Watson being picked after Thomas and the fact he was picked #3 overall that makes him by far the biggest 49er bust of all time:

But our coaches were stupid for not keeping him "at his natural position."

He was s**tty at all positions.
That Bowl game against North Carolina and Mitch Trubisky sent Thomas skyrocketing up the draft board. He looked like the second coming of Aaron Donald.

a terrible pick, he did nothing. and sounds like he has no home with his new team either
No question that Thomas was a bust given his high draft position. If he had been drafted in the 4th or 5th round he might have been considered a decent contributor. Even 3rd round. But obviously the first round was too high for him. He was considered a late 1st or 2nd rounder by most teams so most everyone had him over valued.
Biggest bust in team history

being a nice guy gets you nowhere in life, not just football

There have been several bigger busts. Every coach and every era has seen players drafted high that didn't make it.

I disagree. Imagine telling all the fans that sat and watched every game of the Chip Kelly Niners who were telling themselves "at least we'll get a sweet draft pick out of this horrible season" that the guy they would end up taking would be Soloman Thomas

Kwame Harris, Rashaun Woods, Mike Rumph, Jim Drunkenmiller, Chilo Rachell, Kentwan Balmer,AJ Jenkins, etc weren't third overall picks that were suppose to set the foundation for a new era for the franchise

That's the first correct thing I've seen you say in a while.
