players like thomas and ward and aa. to some of us.. are underachieving players borderline bad players in our opinions and i have seen few actually rooting for them to fail. hoping someone steps up and takes their job is not rooting for them to fail. it just means we have had it with them. now some posters make a good point which opens up a whole other can of worms to the people to just adore lynch..... you can blame lynch for keeping and resigning and drafting those guys. in the case of ward. sure its fine to be pissed at him cuz he is a crap player who always gets hurt. but you need to be mad at lynch for keeping him. twice. you slobber all over lynch for getting jimmy. ford etc. then he also has to be put under the microscope for decisions like this. i am done with ward. done with aa. i am willing to give thomas another off season. but if someone beats him out and he ends up leaving. i am fine with it.. its like our wide outs..... if we start the year with three new guys starting over "our guys" great

Yeah, I mean I don't think there's any posters that are saying lynch can do no wrong...I actually haven't seen much of that. We can point out good and bad moves much like most GMs.

Gotta hold them accountable good/bad, that's part of the gig.

I wouldn't lump Thomas in with guys like AA/Ward...those other two are kinda who they are at this point. I think what some people are complaining about with ST, is they don't really care about his personal issues, which imo is very dumb. That's s**t can and does effect how a person performs.

We can also look at the coaching staff and scratch our heads as to why ST was used as an edge rusher (predominantly) his 1st 2 yrs....dude is a 3-tech gap destroyer...I'm actually excited to see him used as such, sounds like we will be seeing even more attacking from our DEs this yr.

IMHO I don't think the book is written on Thomas just yet. Might not be an all-pro but in the right role he could be a quality starter for a long time.

We will see!

you said nothing wrong.. and i tried my best to say i have not , yet lumped thomas in with aa and ward. does anyone really know why the coaches or dc or whoever played people out of positions?
Why are we talking about Solly at edge? If you haven't figured out that he's a bust there Bosa and Ford say hi. Dude is only going to see some strongside edge snaps on run downs now. He's going to be used inside now.
I think people go to far with making light of/mocking his sisters suicide.

As one of the most consistent Thomas critics, I would never make light of that situation.

I feel you can separate your eyes and your heart with players. I just don't think Thomas is very good at all but as a Stanford fan there probably isn't a single player on the team I'm hoping does well next season more than Thomas.

It doesn't make sense to root for players to fail.

I don't think everyone is doing that so any Thomas believers should understand not all criticisms of his play are people hoping for failure.

Correct, I said they played him out of position for 2 yrs. they wasted his development imo

Indeed they did. I don't think it can be said enough how much the tragedy affected him- and I'm specifically talking about on the field. Either you or another poster put up a great article in the Bosa thread about developing a routine. Makes me wonder if Thomas ever really get into a good routine in year 2. Year 1 was kind of eh. Not awful, but not good either. But then it seemingly all fell apart. It was only further complicated by being out of position. I still don't expect he will live up to the number 3 overall status, but I think he will do well next season. And if by some chance he does start tapping into that potential, we will have a very, very good problem on our hands.

so then we're right/fair to criticize him, also when have I mocked him for handling the tragedy that happened to him. I think hes doing great stuff off the field. Now we just expect the same on the field, which hasn't happened, but I hope it does. I will be here if he does great, to eat crow, but i'm 100% sure I havn't been the only one that has doubted him. I dunno where you got the 3rd pick coming from, I havn't even mentioned anything about that, but stop saying others are crying when you're the crying one. Also your last statement contradicts what you said that he does get blame lol....Some of these post are hilarious. Laughter goes along way fellas.. we don't need a safe space in here.

Lol what? I make a post (not involving you) talking about guys who mock him. Then you quote me. I respond. And you say "when have I mocked him".

lol bro you quoted me in your response... How was I supposed to view that? I was as confused as you, I was like when did I even say that lol

Look at the first post of this page. I was quoting another poster and you quoted me.

I agree with what you're saying, also this is what he said....

lol.... river of tears in here.
STEP THE FUDGE UP SOLLY.

Maybe some people don't give a f**k about their personal lives BUT when it effects how they play the game IT DOES MATTER IMO. We ALL expected more of him based on where he was picked. Very rarely does a top 5 pick ever truly live up to their draft status. His sisters untimely death, along with playing out of position for almost two yrs played a part in his under performing.

Like you said maybe end of the day he wasn't worth his top 3 pick and was over drafted. That's Lynch's fault and Solly has to realize he's never gonna live up to those standards (which he talked about recently) ....that also doesn't mean he can't be a quality starter for a long time. s**t takes time and whether you're a guy playing stupid amounts of cash to watch them or you're a guy living in China WE ARE all invested in this team and expect success. There are issues and problems along the way (like family tragedy) that make it harder and that IS something people have to recognize....or don't and be let down forever because you refuse to admit these guys aren't robots.

LMFAO so this dude quotes me out of nowhere and says "I never said that" when I wasn't originally talking to him. And turns out he did say it anyways. Too funny.

Agreed. And I'm pretty sure you agree that it's not an excuse where were saying he'd be killing it right now if he played at the right position. Maybe he'd still be ineffective wherever he was. But doesn't change that he's been played out of position and wasn't given the best opportunity to succeed.

I was actually referring to the guy asking for technique breakdowns to why Solly sucked at edge as if being the 4th worse edge rusher at generating pressure wasn't enough proof for him. I think we all should be able to agree that years 1 and 2 was trying to jam a square peg into a round hole.

Tru dat!
Solly looked really good coming out of his stance on some of the videos I watched. Been a doubter myself but he looks better already in practice at least.

DE Solomon Thomas. Faced undrafted rookie guard Ross Reynolds three times during 1-on-1 pass-rush drills and beat him zero times. Thomas still lacks pass-rush technique.

But...but...his sister...

He's garbage

What have you done in your life?

Never understood fans who treat players like they're not people.

Maybe she's half werewolf (pathetic mutt) and isn't really fond of humans since she's not fully one herself

To hear Cohan on his podcast he said Solly played 95 percent of his snaps with the second string and was pretty much considered a career backup at this point. (I know what he says is not worth shat around here just thought I would share anyway.)
