They all work for different papers/websites or for NBC sports (including Grant for Press Democrat in Santa Rosa). The only dude that has any reason to sugar coat anything is Joe Fann because he's hired by the 49ers.
They ALL get access to the same practices/pressers. You have no idea if they all huddle up and say "okay let's just talk about this, so we don't get in trouble by the team." That's a HUGE reach IMO and to use that to say Grant is some white knight who's throwing the truth out there (which is kinda what it sounds like you're doing) is a load of crap IMO. They all write about the same s**t BECAUSE they're ALL at the same practice/game.... they have the same sources because they're all there reporting what they're hearing.
Grant acts like he's a football savant and has some great football resume that makes him an expert...which simply isn't true. He's basically a WZer that has a platform and a pass. IF and only IF I hear s**t from more than one reporter about something do I put stock into it.
I have no idea why you keep backing up this turd and his bias opinions.

You're reaching Niners816-level obsession with Grant dude. I simply used him as an example of how as a fan, every report can have 'some' value in it if you know how to find it.

I watched Grant's videos of the player interviews and literally the only question he asked was, "Do you call him Jim?" to Nick Mullens regarding how he addresses Jimmy G and it went unanswered.

Originally posted by NYniner85:ah no, no I'm not lol...I'm simply explain what he does and doesn't do. If you or whomever values (or doesn't) his football knowledge, cool I guess...that's pretty much the extent of his "reporting" him forming opinions on players. Not sure what makes him good in that area
He doesn't report much and his journalism blows. IMO he's a spectator who throws out bad takes to get attention because he's not particularly good at reporting, getting stories, or interviewing players/coaches.

I don't think a one down player is a starter though. Unless you think he starts over Ford/Bosa in base.
Originally posted by NCommand:Haha. I definitely do not value any of his "football knowledge." I haven't read anything by him in 10 years. But you can find something in everything. You'll certainly get less if you're a knowledgeable fan. I seem to get far more from Periscope and podcasts vs. articles these days. Not that I don't appreciate well-written pieces.

That's fair....imo just because you get to watch practice doesn't make you a knowledgeable football reporter. Kinda my point with him. It's not like he's got some scouting background or anything. When I hear him try to explain why JG can't make a deep pass it's like nails on a chalkboard lol.
There's a reason he's only got 6k followers and there's a reason why he tries to make this crazy takes going again the grain...that's all he's got
Originally posted by NCommand:No question. If I get anything from that source it'll be more from his practice videos because I can see with my own eyes and a few nuggets from Periscope on things the locals won't note. Honestly, I probably get about the same from the locals...their practice videos and mostly podcasts. When you put it all together, the more eyes the better. It's all we get. But yes, GC is more like a fans-take than anything. Remember when we had fans go to practice from the WZ, film and post here or give us their bullet points? Same concept for me. You'll get something out if it...like new alignments, new coverage looks, who's lining up where, with what group, injuries, etc. But X's and O's. None of our locals or GC have that knowledge really. Football knowledge.

That's all some of them want.
Yup, this is where people need to distinguish the difference.
When's the last time you saw Grant break a story? When's the last time he interviewed someone? He's not a very good journalist imo and is writing is meh.
He basically puts down a good/bad list and does some periscope stuff. I just think it's funny that people actually listen to him like he's some established football mind
Like I keep saying he's basically a WZer who has a platform & a pass. I put Cohan in the Ryan "beastwriter" Sakamoto class as far as SF reporters go.
