Jesus christ. I hate to say this because it sounds so selfish on my part, but Solomon's sister's suicide may have ruined his career before it ever began. We may never see the Solomon Thomas we thought we were getting.
Im glad he sought help. He is a strong kid. In fact- he may be even better than you thought this year. Getting through that isn't easy, and then the letter from the kid. That kind of stuff can propel a man to new heights.

I would love to see him kick ass. So many stories of ignorance and stupidity with pro athletes it would be nice to see a good story.

I hope you're right.

I know, I'm an insensitive prick. I'll be the first to point that out. But all I could think about while reading that article was that maybe Solly should retire from football. The article implies he was heading towards suicidal thoughts. That and football aren't a good combination. I would hate to see him end up like his sister.

I totally get thinking that. As a former therapist (back in the day), I can tell you as close as he and his sister were, he TOO may have already been heading down that path himself even without her final decision/tragedy triggering. He was so enmeshed in her and being raped and suffering from clinical depression along with his own career and pressure, he never took care of himself.

Now, for the first time in his life, this is really about him and the turning point seemed to be when he got a private therapist. Now he's got a real shot to not only heal but learn real coping skills properly and learn to live in a way his sister never got to...and still live for her in many ways and dedicate part of his life to her.

But I'll tell you what...had he not got help, he may not have been too far behind her. There could have been a genetic component too. His sister seemed to be bipolar.

No I understand where you were coming from. Life is more important than any game. It's scary to imagine what he was going through.

Imo Football is a great thing in his life. And he's talented at it (imo) I and pulling hard for him this season. If he actually excels and tastes some success we may see him go bonkers out there on the field. He looks like he is in amazing shape.

I hope he gets right mentally...I don't know if there was more to the story that what was told to the public. I hope for the best...
"You're not alone," Tony wrote and then concluded the letter by asking if Thomas wanted to be friends.

Thomas did.

The defensive lineman flew Tony and his family out to watch the 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks. It marked San Francisco's first victory against the division rival since the 2013 season.

Thomas balled out in that game. We might not have won it without him. Our line will be stellar if we get that Thomas.

Well, I hope this carries into the season for the defense. But I hope the opposite for the offense. Our interior is clearly still a tremendous problem.

Well our interior OLine is at least getting good reps against quality players, that should help the coaches to evaluate the interior OLine better prior to the 53 man cut day.

True, true. Pros and cons.

to be fair after that tweet, Jimmy G competed every single pass he attempted.

I'm preparing for more of the same for Solomon. Sorry.

What is wrong with that? Where else are you going to play him on base downs? Nose tackle? The difference is that they are no longer pushing him as an edge rusher on passing downs.

The defense gained the upper hand early. Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas broke through the offensive line to end plays early on multiple occasions. Dee Ford and Arik Armstead rounded out the 49ers' starting front.

Was Thomas playing Big End or NT in base?
