I'm preparing for more of the same for Solomon. Sorry.

I mean, this was expected, right? There's nowhere else to put him in base. Not sure why people struggle to comprehend this.

As Phoenix mentioned, the change comes in nickel packages. They were using him outside in nickel(in the package I call snickel). Hopefully, he's inside now.

He plays Leo in base.

What is wrong with that? Where else are you going to play him on base downs? Nose tackle? The difference is that they are no longer pushing him as an edge rusher on passing downs.

I guess it all depends on expectations. Certainly he won't be an every down player on the end with Bosa and Ford (baring injuries). I'm glad he'll get a shot in the middle on 3rds, but I was hoping for more based on his draft spot.

Thanks. I thought Ford would take over that spot.

Are you saying AA is better inside on base than ST?

AA isn't inside in base. He plays big end, which isn't inside. Hence the end in big end.

That's right, my bad. So who is next to Buck? Street, Mitchell's gone.

Anyway, no matter how you slice it, you don't pick a player that high if he's not really a 3 down starter. No way he starts on base between Ford, Bosa and AA. Plus, he's a decent run stopper I believe, but crappy at getting after the QBs on the outside.

DJ Jones

The biggest question I've had is how they're planning to use Ford and Bosa in base. There's a chance neither plays in base, which isn't really a big deal. As long as they play every single nickel snap, it's okay. But if Saleh keeps trotting out his "snickel" package in nickel with AA and Solly at the edges, then we've got a REAL f**king problem.

It's not a shot on 3rds, it's a shot in sub package defense ie nickel and dime. Teams are in sub packages at least 60% of their defensive snaps, and against teams like the Rams and Cards, we may line up in those sub packages 80%+.

There will be loads of opportunities for him to make an impact if he can win his way into the rotation.
I don't see how FORD - THOMAS - BUCKO - BOSA can't be the BASE this year...

Thomas played LEO in base last year but I see Bosa there in base and ST at BE. In wide 9, Ford and Bosa. Nickel, Ford and Bosa

Pumped for DJJones to finally get some playing time assuming he earns it.
No way Saleh uses AA/Solly at nickel DE when he now has Ford and Bosa at his disposal. That'd be dumb. Can't wait to see how the DL rotation shakes out.

Not enough size for a 60% running set. Of bosa and Ford are there, that's a wide 9 and you need some serious beef in the middle to protect LB's

Considering how much they are paying Arik Armstead, and that DJ Jones' snaps will come mostly from base defense, I am not surprised to hear that. If ST can be effective, we can rest Buckner more and Buckner can be even more effective per snap.

Makes sense. I liked what I saw from Thomas at BE as a rookie.
