Getting 2 good edge rushers will make the secondary look a lot better than they are. We had a very average coverage unit when harbaugh was here that was sufficient due to a disruptive front 7.
Three most difficult positions to fill on a football team. QB, LT, DE....

KS hasn't even found 1 in 2 years....

So I guess you are thinking MM won't be Staley's successor. Ok. As far as ER, it's been slim pickings these last 2 years. This year should be different, so flame away if if they don't shore this up this offseason . I will

Traded for Jimmy, McGlinchey might be our LT of the future, and this offseason we actually have a great opportunity to get an edge unlike the last two offseasons.

Good try though.

Hard to find an edge rusher when you draft only one in two years in the back half of the draft and he couldn't help because he had an ACL tear preparing for the draft. Then with 100 million to spend in F/A they cut their best edge rusher from the year prior and extend AA and Marsh and fill the back half of the roster with guys they eventually cut or trade away.

Good try through.

So who would you have signed in FA with that 100 mil? Who would you have drafted?

He didn't find him he was gifted Garoppolo.

I know this is off topic but this post brought back memories of that 2011-2013/14ish defense. People don't understand how ridiculous that front 7 was. In its prime Aldon Smith, Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman, Ahmad Brooks, Ray McDonald, Isaac Sopoaga/Ian Williams , Justin Smith. The crazy part is Ahmad Brooks was the "weakest" link of that D yet he would be the top pass rusher on this team by a long shot. Dude was averaging like 6/7 sacks a year all while being crazy good at setting the edge. God I miss that defense

Even if you want to run with that idea (I'm not disputing it), Kyle Shanahan did have to do something to be gifted Garoppolo, unless you believe a 2nd round pick was the best offer of 31 teams in the league. Do you believe that?

Furthermore of the 3 most difficult positions, I'd say KS has landed 2. MM may play RT, but could easily see him being Staley's successor. As for what he's done with edge, yeah, it's been bad. For the record, they didn't extend AA. They picked up his 5th year option. I'm not aware of any contract extension Marsh received. Totally hate that we went into this year relying on them, but with that said, I'm really interested in knowing who you would have signed in FA or drafted. There were two guys available. Now granted, I probably would have gone with Harold Landry in the 2nd once he fell that far, but from what I've read on this board, even if they did draft Landry, if Landry didn't work out, there are many that would still be on KS and JL. They have a complaint for every day that ends with the letter y.

I watched a few games from 2012 and 2013 recently. It was incredible. Criminal that we didn't get a Super Bowl out of that squad.

That defense shut down the run and if a pass was completed there were no yards after the catch. How many batted balls did Brooks have?

Ridiculous pass rush. WRs scared because Goldson and Whitner waiting to take their heads off. Absolutely loved that defense. The Justin and Aldon injuries were incredibly unfortunate. The one time in those 3 years our offense was moving and scoring at an elite level, we lose our pass rush/defense. Sums up our luck during that run.

Sheldon Day is a keeper as well.
Ruben foster may go an entire college and NFL career never recording an interception. He's a stud but man this is crazy

Oh where oh where has our Ruben gone?
A suspension took his spirit away.
He's gone to mediocre land so we've got to pray.
Please football gods return our Ruben someday.

Oh god this is ridiculous, people just twisting it to fit their narrative. They acquired Garoppolo, period. That can't be taken away from them. If it took them utilizing a relationship with Belicheck, than more power to them. Point is they got a Competent QB in here within a year of arriving. They've solidified two of the corner stone positions within two years, In their third offseason lets see if they can get that ER we've needed for so long.
