The #49ers have signed Sacramento native and third-round pick Ahkello Witherspoon to a four-year contract.

Tell that to Robert Smith.

Sounds highly intelligent and says he's going to be a surgeon after football. Sounds like Dr. John Frank, the former TE who only played 5 seasons then quit to save his hands from further damage to pursue a medical career. Hope he is successful while he's here.

What we don't see might be telling to us.... He did not go from High school to a major medical school. There has been no mention of his college GPA in his scouting reports.
Have we heard at any point he is a serious doctor candidate? The Last NFL guy that was going to be a brain surgeon they talked over and over and over about his classroom prowess. I have not heard that about Ahkello. Did I just miss it?
I am concerned, I really hope he loves being a CB and is great as I hope he can be.
He's kind of a weird dude. I don't know what to make of his comments or his interest in med school. Too early to be concerned about him, its not like he's done anything wrong. When you watch him he's very competitive in coverage, but very passive in the run game. Overall I like what I saw from him in college, I think he enjoys the game.
Yeah, it sounds like he is a serious Dr. candidate.

Witherspoon graduated high school with a 4.4 GPA and was a pre-med student at Colorado.

I really don't see the problem with someone having an aspiration after football.
Rather have a young man focused on his future rather than clubs and Jezebels

What if he just wants to earn enough money to pay for school, and the team us left with no 3rd round pick after 1-2 years? That video was concerning.

Doesn't Garnett plan to go to med school after he retires as well?

Then he's a bust and we keep moving. There's nothung else we can do at this point.
What are the chances of his career lasting beyond 3 or 4 or 5 years anyway? Most picks bust. It just so happens this guy has a plan if that happens. I guess for us fans it's better that he just lives eats breathes and dookies football and when he busts out (which is the overwhelming probability) he has nothing and we just forget he ever existed. But he's and person and he needs to look out himself. I personally don't have a problem with that.

I think he does...Or some type of medicine. I'm pretty sure Rueben Foster is headed to the medical field after his playing days too?

Yeah I saw that too
His High School GPA is not the nail in the coffin..... nobody has bragged about his college GPA....
Teams love to do that if the are medical school worthy.
Here we are worried we drafted an amazing college CB that is too smart

The risk with smart players is that they will move onto other things too soon. The risk with dumb players is that they will do knuckleheaded things and become unavailable. Better off with the smart players.

I was just going to post that...88 targets; doubling some of those guys and still at 31% is insane. This is also an indication he might be baiting QB's to throw his way as well and then breaking on the ball (22 PD's; only 28 receptions allowed). I believe his HC noted this skill as well (cerebral). His HC also said he needs about 18 months of professional diet and conditioning and technique training and he'll be special. That sounds about right. If he learns to catch on these baits, those 22 PD's will turn into TO's and pick-6's.

Chidobe was really good too, so Witherspoon was "picked on", and he held up so well. Not only can he cover, and has height, 6'3", but also His Vertical is Insane. 40.5". In our D, we're going to be challenged over the top of our CBs - good luck throwing over the top of Ahkello.
