They don't understand whether or not somebody actually busted for and he may have been making up for somebody and shouldn't have been there in the first place. Ahkello actually, when you go back and look at that tape, played a pretty good football game. There were a couple of situations where he got caught in a bad situation.

So two plays weren't Spoon's fault. Anybody have a guess on which two plays and what went wrong?

Lol Jesus. So you're like Akhellos version of tradethomastoNE. That's coach speak. This entire season coaches have been sticking up for the players. They're not going to just call him out to the media.

The rest of his quote is:
"But, to say he played a poor game against Seattle, I'll be honest with all of you, it would be inaccurate."

Lol, so saying he played poor is inaccurate but somehow he got benched during the most important time... Right. Saleh is clearly just trying not to kill Witherspoons confidence.

JC does not seem to be taking sides, he appears to be asking a question.

But FWIW Eric Crocker agreed with Saleh:

However, Witherspoon said he was told at the start of this week that he wouldn't lose his first-string status. He acknowledged he wasn't thrilled by his performance against the Seahawks, which included allowing 14-yard touchdown receptions to wide receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf.

"I think I played average," Witherspoon said. "And I'm not an average player. So that's a poor game for me. Just little things that just don't need to happen."

"There are just plays that I have to make if I'm going to be the player that I want to be," Witherspoon said. "It's not about (playing) good or bad. It's just the potential I have in my body and what I've done already with my body, with my gifted abilities"

A corner has to...a shot memory and supreme confidence are everything mentality wise at that position. Look at all of the greats, you need to have a short memory and a ton of confidence or you getting burned once turns into all the time. I think Spoon has been a tick off since the injury but I still have a ton of faith he will be good. He may have a short leash in the rest of the playoffs because E-man is outplaying him right now, but over the long haul Spoon has the higher ceiling.

Fwiw PFF agrees with everyone else that Mosely has been the better cb.

fair enough lol
At least they'll pull him now, if he can't handle Diggs or Thielen.

nothing wrong with this, a cb has to be confident/cocky and if theyre not theyll be mike rumph. Good to know he still has confidence in himself, lets hope with ford coming back and a rested dline he plays like he did before his injury against the steelers

Not arguing who is the better corner here but if we are using those PFF numbers we should not overlook context. AW had 4 starts late in the year where we were without Ford and a lot of the DL depth which in turn affected the pass rush, which wasn't having the same level of success as earlier in the year.

Fans need to keep in mind that Kyle can overrule the decision on who should start opposite Sherm and has chosen not to.
With Sherm on the team and his leadership role, I have to believe the DC and HC had a discussion with him too with regards to who plays on the other side. Thoughts?
Witherspoon when playing aggressive with confidence is the clear better player. Who we get who knows. I think he's the better fit to get first shot against MIN but should have a short leash.
Short leash please. Short leash

Spoon has been in position but to say he played a pretty good football game is toting the line and disingenuous. Thats not even from a arm chair coaching perspective of the uninformed like Saleh wants us to think.

For one... he got pulled, thats the niners own DC finally saying get him out of there. More importantly just look at who they went at whenever Seattle needed a big play. Wilson straight up stares down Spoon half the time and doesnt take his eyes off the route Spoon is matched up against on a few plays. (The play before the lynch TD and Metcalfs TD that counted) He knows that at some point their is going to be a window to get the ball to his guy.

Spoon rarely plays the ball anymore and when he does he often gets caught out of position, (See the TD he gave up that got called back on the Iupati hold). Now that could of been broken coverage by Harris but Spoon is playing in the same zone as Warner with no defender occupying it rather than underneath Metcalf with Harris supposed to be over the top Maybe? otherwise it looks even worse for Spoon. Wilson figured out its his lowest risk pass since either his guy is gonna make the play or its going incomplete knowing the defender isnt looking. On the Lockett TD, Wilson was doing his midget things and he got caught in between trying to look back and trying to box out like defending a inbound pass in basketball, so that one was just a tough play.

I will stick up for Spoon in saying Harris sucks at coverage and is responsible for some of the breakdowns, maybe spoon started trying to do too much or think too much. Because the difference from the start of the season to now is that he is stuck in reaction mode, he's not anticipating, he's not being aggressive, he's playing afraid of giving up a big play. He's a phenomenal athlete and will always be in decent position but without the anticipation and confidence to be aggressive, being in position is not enough in the NFL as we are seeing. E-man has that aggressiveness still and IMO that has been one of the biggest differences in their play.

Coverage wise I think Spoon and Eman aren't too different from one another. But when it comes to making open field tackles I always think Spoon can do more. If he sees DCook coming his way this week, he better put his big boy pants on and get aggressively involved.
NOT that eMan is a shut down corner yet... but the guy plays like he knows there will be NO tomorrow if he lacks off on each and on every plays.. I guess this comes as being one of those UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS.. Striving and working hard to earn their MILLIONS !!

NEVERTHELESS, the Vikings offense doesn't rely on GIMICKS the way we do and that alone will tell you that our CBs better be prepare for their Dynamic Duo !!
This is the playoffs! No second chances! Bench the Spoon!!!
