Witherspoon was balling out before his injury last year. I'm not ready to give up on him. Dude just needs to play with confidence and make plays on the ball without drawing flags. It's pretty rare to see him just be beaten badly, dude just wasn't making the plays despite being close to the WRs. You're right there man...just break up the play using all those physical tools you have.

Why put so much importance into a small sample size against two opponents that were not very good?

Tampa Bay may not have been very good but they had arguably the best WR duo in the league.

Doesn't change the fact they had the most turnover prone QB in the league.

Who passed for 5109 yards(1st) and 33(2nd most) TDs in the league...

His worst game before he injury was against Pittsburgh where he ended up matched up on JuJu in the middle of the field and failed to make a tackle and JuJu outran our D for a 76 yard TD.

Outside of that play, before his injury he was targeted 17 times for 5 catches and 72 yards. That's pretty good. Even with the JuJu play I'd take that over 3 games and the level of WR he was playing against. After the injury he didn't play with the same swagger. We'll see what happens this year. Perfect case Moseley never gives the job back so we don't have to find out or worry about it.
Yet no team was interested in Winston as nothing more than a backup QB this offseason. Those numbers clearly didn't outweigh the turnovers which had Tampa trailing most of the season.

Even if you include the Pittsburgh (which he didn't finish) game it's still a small sample size. Now if he was playing at a high level for atleast half a season I could see making a stronger argument for him.

I understand your take, it was a small sample size but you're trying to diminish his play in that small sample size with silly arguments. Yes Winston wasn't that highly thought of but fact was he was airing the ball out like crazy and had two of the best WRs in the league last year and they had their worst game against us in yards and TDs.

Witherspoon is still playing the WRs and not the QB. Winston is super hot and cold but if the receiver is getting open he was getting them the ball frequently.

Either way we'll see what happens. I think we've seen glimpses of great play from Spoon but he was benched for a reason.
He has to overcome that Minny game to be a starter and a consistent one.

How many more chances will he get to redeem..

Too easy.
At some point I think fans of the game as well as people that study film have to realize this guy is just not good. He is too inconsistent to be relied upon as we have seen for the past couple of years. He does have the tools and the talent however just like a lot of draft picks, talent and tools don't translate consistently.

When is everyone going to admit that he is just not that good of a player. He may show up a few games per year but he will be the reason we get burned for touchdowns as well as lose games. He's a good backup but even when he's in we have to worry about him giving up big plays and touchdowns like he always has.

Sadly I agree man eman has the dog in him and that's what we need to roll with and even as far as look to get another guy in here that can replace spoon
Spoon has the talent and has shown flashes of it. Unfortunately the problem is in his head, he can't overcome any kind of adversity.
If he has a bad play, he'll suck the rest of the game. Shanahan left him in against Seattle to be destroyed by DK Metcalf. LEarnt the lesson in the playoffs, after being beaten by Diggs, Spoon was sent to the bench.
He started playing incredibly well this season. The injury happened and he couldn't overcome the competition with Moseley.

It's weird, because his rookie year he had to start from the bottom. He was the Charlie Brown of training camp, he was pitiful in preseason and a healthy scratch the first weeks. Between him working his ass to earn an starting job (and Robinson-Johnson being dogcrap) he earn the starting job, and played very well. And that was without Richard Sherman on the team.

Anyway, this is his last season with the team. A contract year. Will he show up?
Imagine being this poor kid being taught about jam and press techniques by a guy who never does either of those.

But seriously, I'm sure Ahkello makes for a great teacher. Dude is bright as hell. He just sucks ass at applying the technique when the bullets are flying.

Maybe because of Verrett's injury?
