Witherspoon was balling out before his injury last year. I'm not ready to give up on him. Dude just needs to play with confidence and make plays on the ball without drawing flags. It's pretty rare to see him just be beaten badly, dude just wasn't making the plays despite being close to the WRs. You're right there man...just break up the play using all those physical tools you have.
Why put so much importance into a small sample size against two opponents that were not very good?
Tampa Bay may not have been very good but they had arguably the best WR duo in the league.
Doesn't change the fact they had the most turnover prone QB in the league.
Who passed for 5109 yards(1st) and 33(2nd most) TDs in the league...
His worst game before he injury was against Pittsburgh where he ended up matched up on JuJu in the middle of the field and failed to make a tackle and JuJu outran our D for a 76 yard TD.
Outside of that play, before his injury he was targeted 17 times for 5 catches and 72 yards. That's pretty good. Even with the JuJu play I'd take that over 3 games and the level of WR he was playing against. After the injury he didn't play with the same swagger. We'll see what happens this year. Perfect case Moseley never gives the job back so we don't have to find out or worry about it.
Even if you include the Pittsburgh (which he didn't finish) game it's still a small sample size. Now if he was playing at a high level for atleast half a season I could see making a stronger argument for him.
I understand your take, it was a small sample size but you're trying to diminish his play in that small sample size with silly arguments. Yes Winston wasn't that highly thought of but fact was he was airing the ball out like crazy and had two of the best WRs in the league last year and they had their worst game against us in yards and TDs.
Witherspoon is still playing the WRs and not the QB. Winston is super hot and cold but if the receiver is getting open he was getting them the ball frequently.
Either way we'll see what happens. I think we've seen glimpses of great play from Spoon but he was benched for a reason.
