Teams will run to his side in purpose though

Most of the time WRs do a good job blocking their man... if we're relying on Spoon to make a TD saving tackles constantly on RBs we're in trouble lol. Or at worst he won't be playing first downs.

if he constantly has to make TD saving tackles, that means our DL and LBs are doing an awful job again.

Youre overthinking this

He just needs to get a little bigger
His job is not to tackle; it is to swat down passes.

Exactly Hyde. Yup he will add a little mass but that is not his concern right now.. learning those X's and O's is what's important... he'll be in that weight/training room and be alright come week 1. Carolina is on the plate, we could end up going with the hot hand between DJ/Spoon.
I love our defensive backfield right now.

it will be very hard to pass on.
The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reports third-round CB Ahkello Witherspoon was "sprinkled into the first-string defense" this week.

Following the release of Tramaine Brock and Jimmie Ward's transition to free safety, the 49ers are looking for a starter opposite Rashard Robinson. Long and athletic, Witherspoon projects as a perfect fit in the 49ers' new scheme. He has a real chance to open Week 1 as a starter.

I would LOVE to see this (if he's ready). Man, him on one side and Robinson on the other would just be absolutely fun to watch esp. if refs allow them to be physical ala Seattle.

I think he'll be ready for Funchess week 1. That's a great matchup and test for him. As long as he holds his own and doesn't give up more than 50-75 yards cause you'd figure they'll be targeting him, let the boy do his thing and maybe he makes a play for us with a pick.

The saying couldn't be any more true in our case, it's not how you start... it's how you finish.

Panthers matchups will be good!

Witherspoon vs Funchess
Robinson vs Benjamin
Foster vs McCaffrey
Reid/Tartt vs Olsen
Williams/Redmond vs. Samuel

Can we borrow one of their big receivers? We might be their best matchup in the NFL.
Foster vs McCaffrey is not fair. Any LB on that guy is not fair.

i think it'll be a good matchup. With Foster's speed and instincts, he should be able to sniff out the plays and use his speed to get where he needs to be quick enough.
I think McCaffrey would make Foster look foolish flexed out in a one-on-one. His route running is simply too much for a LB.

foster will still find him and kill him tho
