I mean it wasn't a rope...but looked like a decent spiral to me?

I see why Kyle went after the kid based on all the play-action stuff and the fact that he seems to have a good football mind/made line changes and stuff like that in college. It wasn't all one read stuff or half of the field progressions that makes up a lot of college ball today.

IMO I don't see him as the FQB guy and I can live with him as a good backup and developmental guy. Just glad we didn't burn a top pick on any of these qbs.

He doesn't need to throw it on a rope. But he does need to throw a spiral. That was another wobbler. Watch his combine "highlights". If he can be a backup, that's great. Not sure how the hell this dude has 100 pages. He may not even make the team next offseason.

Yeah, I'm glad we used the top pics for defense too. He really won't show his potential until year 2 pre-season, after his second training camp is done. By then, he'll probably be 80% of what his ceiling would be. I know Joe was at 80% when he was in his 2nd year. His 3rd year he really mastered Walsh's offense, and then he got Rice and his ceiling just exploded into the Hall of Fame. Prior to Rice, I think he really needed that top 3 defense to get him through some tight NFC games (Dallas anyone?).

In pre-season, I'll be looking at how CJ can throw the deep ball, the sideline patterns, and if he can 1. see and/or anticipate the blitz 2. call the correct audible (i.e. slant, screen pass, swing pass to RB) 3. Can he connect with the receiver after the audible. Again, you don't need a rocket arm to operate the WCO, but you do need touch and accuracy. It doesn't hurt to have a strong arm in the WCO though, and as far as I can tell - he can throw the deep ball. Not like Kaepernick of course, but I think his arm is better than Rattay's arm (based on the NFL combine videos).

can't wait for those 3 yard bombs

If nitpicking , it was slightly underthrown and an NFL DB would have broken that up. Who the hell is that WR though? Looks pretty good.

I didn't hate Alex for it...I hated the play calling that led to it. If the call is for a 3 yard toss and we consistently move the chains, especially in the RZ,and score TD's instead of FG's, then I am ok with it. That said you need to have some success with long tosses to make those short ones work.

I'm sorry that wasn't a wobbler lol...wobblers don't go 60+ in the air.

I'm fine with a 60+ yard throw being a yard or two underthrown lol...WR gotta make a play as well. I'll add a NFL WR could also make sure that play doesn't get broken up, one-on-one in front of the DB is always to the advantage of the WR.

CJ has more than enough arm, not sure if he has that "it" factor though.

He had two 90 plus yard TDs in that game, both on short slants.
All i know is that last yr we got a potential FR QB 6th rd pick on a roll of the dice. Now whether he was good , bad or indifferent, i don't know. I do know that even tho he was the first one we had drafted in a long while, when it came to cut down time, he ended up on the PS and was gone virtually the next day.

I DON'T see that happening with CJ. His pick was legit, and we are sticking with him this yr and beyond...unless he plays his way off the team. JUst knowing that is a target of kyle and john is a huge positive. Not having any developmental QB on board was stupd and dangerous. Putting Driskell on the PS was foolhardy. Don't expect to see a redux of that. Kyle liked him and CJ will get his shot. But just a shot...nothing more. It will be by merit, nothing else.

Yep Doc, you nailed it. Baalke was never very sharp on the offensive side of the draft. I really can't put a name to any of his offensive draft picks that have been top of the line players since day one, to tell you the truth. Kyle will probably salvage what he can from the offensive dumpster he left for Kyle. As for the QB position in general, worst case scenario - the 49ers got a back up QB in CJ, and will spend draft capital to shore up that QB position next year. Any franchise that lets a guy like Cousins leave is insane in my opinion, and that's probably not going to happen next year. So at least for the time being CJ is our developmental QB. Best case scenario, CJ is a solid QB and starts in his 2nd season (next year) and the 49ers trade for a younger back up QB to develop and most likely keep either Hoyer or Barkely as the vet QB in the 2nd string position. If CJ develops (remote chance, I know), I'd rather preserve the draft capital to shore up the WR, O-Line, or defense, rather than spend draft capital on a QB, unless it's the 5th round or lower.
