QB CJ Beathard - signs with Jacksonville

Beathard.

He doesn't strike me as the next Cousins. I know Shanahan said he reminds him of Cousins but I just don't see it. Maybe if we just look at his 2015 tape. Then again, coming out of college I didn't think Cousins would develop into what he is today.

I'm just going to have to trust Shanahan but I won't hold it against him if Beathard doesn't work out. QB's picked in the 100's rarely end up being really good starters. IMO he will be a decent backup. That's all I expect. If he does a lot better than that great! If not oh well. It was basically our 4th rounder. I like taking shots like that in the draft. Especially in a draft where we gained picks.

I'd love for Beathard to get a shot as the starter in the next year or two. But, that can only happen, if we don't sign Cousins and we don't draft a FQB.

Gotcha and thanks for the clarification!

honestly i think Hoyer will at least miss a game or two. I think if Hoyer gets injured toward the end of the season, Shanahan will want to see what BeatHard has.

I can't with 100% certainty say, as this was 5 years ago however I took it as he just opted to keep the routes the same but go to Crabtree...but I could be wrong. However I believe you are right about VD. I think the play in which he talked about VD being wide open was on 3rd down (see below), which makes me think he meant that he called an audible on the entire play itself on 4th. It's a painful time that I have tried to block out , but I do distinctly remember him saying Kaep called more than 1 audible on that goal line series

What has always bothered me about that sequence beyond Gore not getting the ball was a play not being drawn up to simply toss it up to Moss and let him go up and get it.

You have a 6'4" receiver with a HOF resume and he has been eluded in his pursuit of a SB ring, why not trust him to make a play on the ball? Take advantage of his size. I could have better lived with Moss simply not being able to come down with it but you have to at least give him that chance.

This whole discussion may make me have to go into counseling for unhealed wounds....
why did I click on this thread early in the morning

You nailed it!

IMO, it's not even an issue anymore.

AND he won't be starting anyway.

One thing I'd like to see in pre-season is how strong CJ's arm really is. I'd like Kyle to dial up a go route to Marquis and have CJ try to overthrow him. I'd love to see where he launches the ball and where it ends up. I really don't care if it gets intercepted, after all it's preseason. I'd just like to see how far he can really throw.

I am sure they will use TC to find out. Whether or not we hear about it.

Absolutely agree. But I, as a fan, would like to see it personally. I'm sure Kyle has already dialed up the Go routs during the OTA's prior to training camp and knows precisely how strong CJ's arm is. I'm just dying to find out myself.
Can't wait to see Beathard in the pre-season!!

Yup. Remember Kap in New Orleans in pre-season his first year? He got blitzed 10 ways to Sunday. He was atrocious, 9 for 19 for just over a hundred yards. If CJ can equal those numbers in the pre-season, I will raise my expectations of CJ tremendously! I want CJ blitzed heavily in pre-season because that's what he'll face as a QB coming in for an injured starter in the regular season. Until he can defeat the blitz, they will keep coming after him.

Yeah, but specifically, we want to see how CJ does.

Great call...I'd like to see that too!
