You nailed it!

IMO, it's not even an issue anymore.

AND he won't be starting anyway.

One thing I'd like to see in pre-season is how strong CJ's arm really is. I'd like Kyle to dial up a go route to Marquis and have CJ try to overthrow him. I'd love to see where he launches the ball and where it ends up. I really don't care if it gets intercepted, after all it's preseason. I'd just like to see how far he can really throw.

Giedi, this brings up a good point re: getting to see each of these guys and how they look. The tendency of HCs here, has been to play the supposed starter couple qtrs in last game and if he needed work game 1 or 2 also. Then baalke went to a deal where we played our starter 1st qtr of PS game 1 adn then a tiny bit of game 4. What is the right way to do it, i have no clue. Part of that could have been due to injury, but IDK on that. But still the question, we got a starter, putatively, and then a backup and development project. So who plays in PS. Ideally this yr, give Hoyer the most time because we KNOW he will need it. Also be sure we get a long look at CJ at least twice. For barkley I'm no so sure . I guess we need to get him a couple snaps too, maybe even 2 or 3 qtrs. When you are starting all over, #1 guy gets predominance of snaps. #2 guy gets a few. Developmental guy gets 2nd most, as we all want to se what he has. If he has something special, then we should get to see more of it.

Watched his game against Michigan on espnu........guy holds onto the ball way too long, he is gonna get himself killed.

That's what Matt Miller said too (with an emphasis):

"Playing with that knee brace, I think it threw off some of his timing," Miller said of Beathard's accuracy issues.

Miller's biggest issue with Beathard is that he hesitates to get the football out of his hands. "In the NFL, you can't have that slow trigger," he said. "You just have to be faster. That is something that if you have a team around you that you don't trust, you'll see quarterbacks hesitate with the ball."

Doesn't sound good, but could be something that can be corrected with a better OL and WR's.

In game time really depends on how they do in practice. As a coach, I'm not going to play a player if he can't play, even in pre-season. I would like for each player to be pretty much 100% accurate in their assignments before they play one down in pre-season. Otherwise injuries can occur specially on offense if the RB misses a blitz pick up. I know Harbaugh gave players pre-season playing time if they did well in practice, and I'm betting something similar will happen with Kyle.

I agree. I watched that game too, and he had several plays where the WR's just dropped the pass. That will make you hesitate and try to throw a more catchable ball. I dunno. I am trusting Kyle to know what he's doing when he picked CJ. I don't watch college ball and so I'm relying on the draft nerds here on this board and the folks who really know stuff like JohnnyDel and thl408 and the other football X's and O's guys. I will be watching pre-season before I'll be making my own assessments.

Was he holding on to the ball too long in 2015 as well? I haven't really watched a ton of him outside of highlights and short clips.

Pretty much what it comes down to is that none of your receivers are worth a damn. Iowa ran a very run heavy offense where the passing game took a backseat.

Lack of reps+lack of rhythm+crappy receivers and suddenly the QB is clutching down pretty good on the football.

The thing I like most about Beathard is that the foundation is there. Footwork, basic fundamentals, processing speed, going through progressions, all that is already there, just needs fine tuning.

Odds are that he'll never be anything more than a backup QB but it is pretty clear he was majorly underutilized in that offense.

He's going to the next level. I remember going from High School to University and it was a totally different ball game. The guys who did well in HS didn't do well in Uni and had to drop out, and me - who's grades sucked donkey balls, graduated. It's the same thing in going to the next level, it's a new ball game and past history is not a 100% predictor of future success.

So CJ will make wow throws in pre-season...

CJ has two years in my book...maybe even 3. "Aint nobody got time for that"... Well, too bad lol.
I think he is supposed to be throwing interceptions right now. He is learning a difficult offense right now. The question to me Will be, Does he have the mental and physical toughness to keep pushing forward, while failing along the way? We shall see. I'm rooting for him, I Love an underdog.
Complicated offense for a position that is the hardest in the league to master. i don't have high expectations for him but i won't put too much until a couple of preseason games.
