Cousins is a lock. Right now I'm guessing the best WR available at 1 next year.

I don't know about all that. A lot can happen between now and free agency next year. In anycase with an extra 2nd and 3rd, the 49ers set themselves up decently to move up for a QB next draft if they so desire.

He's leaving Washington, I have no doubts about it.

Ehhhh- what if the team finds a better situation by then? I think it's still 50/50

I don't think we will find a better situation. We can roll with him on a 5 year deal. Allows us to be competitive quickly but still have the ability to a take a QB early in a few years to properly groom.
Here's a fair scouting report on Beatherd. I'm excited to see what Shanahan can do with him.

Okay if he becomes a good backup qb for the next 8-10 years I still think the pick would be worth it.

I've never seen someone so bitter after a draft. Usually everyone is happy, pleased, excited or just plain satisfied. But I've never seen someone so disgruntled after a draft. Lmfao

Maybe Cousins will convince Pryor come with him next year. "YOU LIKE THAT SNYDER?!"
As I in Iowa, but am a Wisconsin fan I feel I can give a decent analysis of Beathard. I'd describe his as a player. In college he could beat people when he had players around him. This last season he didn't. Iowa had even less than normal talent and CJ struggled. It would be better to analyze his two prior years for a sample of what he can do. He lost his best receiver early in the year, the offense line lacked talent and well, Iowa's offense isn't sexy to begin with. He took sacks because of poor line play and all of his stats suffered because of it. Completion percentage was down, picks were up, but the kid showed grit by playing through injury. He may never be more than a backup, but he showed flashes of really great Montana-like play over the previous seasons. He showed an ability to make plays and beat people with his ability. I wasn't upset with the pick, just with taking him in the 3rd when we probably could have got him in the late 4th or 5th or even later. I totally agree that he will fit Shanahan's offense and has a skill set similar to fellow Big 10 alums Hoyer and Cousins. If he is only a career backup he should be a good one at that.

He's been cracking me up all day since draft started

He gave him a 4th round grade, so that was spot on. I found it interesting that he cites his regression in his Sr year a a big red flag, and in the same breath he mentions how he lost his two #1 wideouts and his two best lineman ... and that they never solved either tackle spot. And he also had groin surgery before his Sr year. I never saw him play in college, but just hearing that gives me a clue as to why he regressed ... lol.

Take CJ for what he is. At best he'll develop into a backup QB. Just disappointed that they burned a 3rd round pick on him when they could have gone elsewhere.

Absolutely nobody on the planet knows this. He may flop, he may be serviceable as a backup, he may prove a capable starter, he may make the NFL his playground. Nobody knows. Speaking in such absolutes is silly.

Kurt Warner - it doesn't happen a lot, but it happens

Edit: I thought of Warner because he played for Northern Iowa - where I went to school. And CJ played for the University of Iowa and I grew up in Iowa. So I guess I sort of had Iowa on my mind.

But you weren't thinking about cciowa

I do not believe Shanahan would have drafted him at that spot if he thought that backup was the best he could be.

I don't either. I don't think a team jumps at the chance to trade up if they felt 'good backup QB' was his ceiling.

Yeah, well, me neither. In rd 3-4 if you jump up you have cause. And the cause had to be because this was Kyle's guy. Had to be because if not, he could have literally had any qB he wanted with our first pick. Obviously he was not 1st rd talent, nor second, but 4th wtih inside info someone else was going to get him, and that was the scuttlebutt, kyle moved up a few places. Big deal. We still came out of this draft like bandits. Amazing kyle never said word one about CJB. Not one. He mentioned a VERY few words about peterman, but that was all. The rest he just gave generic answers, including the rather lengthy explanation of passing on Kap.

You gotta love the closed "mouthedness" of our two brand new leaders.

But kiper and mcshay had him going later and no QB has ever been good drafted in the third round
