Watch Shanny polish this kid to be "back up" ready soon... there's still potential beyond that.
He's got smarts, very coachable, already familiar with pro-style. I want to see if he's a quick learner on this level, and patient in the pocket w/out folding under pressure (scrambling around like an idiot, bad judgement, INTs)

I don't either. I don't think a team jumps at the chance to trade up if they felt 'good backup QB' was his ceiling.
Yeah, well, me neither. In rd 3-4 if you jump up you have cause. And the cause had to be because this was Kyle's guy. Had to be because if not, he could have literally had any qB he wanted with our first pick. Obviously he was not 1st rd talent, nor second, but 4th wtih inside info someone else was going to get him, and that was the scuttlebutt, kyle moved up a few places. Big deal. We still came out of this draft like bandits. Amazing kyle never said word one about CJB. Not one. He mentioned a VERY few words about peterman, but that was all. The rest he just gave generic answers, including the rather lengthy explanation of passing on Kap.
You gotta love the closed "mouthedness" of our two brand new leaders.
I loved Shanahan's line in the presser about having lied to peers all across the league for two months.

The reactions on here remind me of how people (talking heads, seahawk fans etc. I literally remember saying to myself "that type of pick is why they have always been a bad franchise") reacted when the Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson lol the people need to stop complaining until given a reason to complain.
Honestly crying about this pick is ridiculous and shows your mentality. "Omg why this! Worst ever! So much better out there!" It's really bringing it down for a lot of us other fans that are optimistic and excited for the franchise. If you want to cry about it before you have a reason to be disheartened, write a letter to Kyle shanahan lol maybe he will care.

Lynch confirmed he had "intel" that several teams had Beathard going in the 3rd and 4th round so he used a 7th and got Kyle's man.

Exactly This was Shan's guy, trust him.. live with it people. Understand his numbers are what they are because of where he played..
Look at the mechanics, this guy is solid.
He has football in his blood.
He's a fast learner, that's what all the scouts raved about at the senior bowl.
He could be something special.. let's just wait and see!

That was some great convo there that Shanny put out, I found myself laughing out loud at my monitor.
BTW This guy was taking huge hits in the film of the Michigan game, right up the middle like there was no center or guard. Just stood in and waited, and waited for someone to get open, then big time straight up hits..Brutal and very impressive from a "poised" point of view..

I don't know about all that. A lot can happen between now and free agency next year. In anycase with an extra 2nd and 3rd, the 49ers set themselves up decently to move up for a QB next draft if they so desire.
He's leaving Washington, I have no doubts about it.
Yup Cousins will be our qb come next season
Ehhhh- what if the team finds a better situation by then? I think it's still 50/50
Agreed. I like Cousins and with Shanahan it's a great match, but let's not act like it's a guarantee. For all we know, we could wake up any day this summer and find out that Cousins signed an extension.
I do believe there's at least some mutual interest, but a lot of things need to happen for Cousins to get here. It's far from a lock. Most would say it's not even 50/50. We have to hope Washington doesn't sign him to an extension, hope they don't franchise tag him again, hope they don't transition tag him and then outbid us, hope Cousins doesn't get injured, hope Cousins doesn't play so poorly we change our minds...

ikr. I mean the Niners drafted some guy named Montana late in the 3rd, but he never did anything good.

McShay was in ESPN today explaining the pick and was all in all, POSITIVE about the selection. I bet he's giving Kyle some slack too, deservingly so. Time, will, tell. If anyone is against the selection, slap yourself for thinking you know more
