We will not be in a position to draft Darnold next year. We were historically bad last year, and we still couldn't secure the #1 pick in the draft. If he is as good as you say he is, the worst team in the NFL will draft him and wouldn't be willing to trade him to anyone. Even if they were, we would have to trade the farm to get him.

I don't think Darnold even declares for the draft next year if he's aware that he's not a lock to go #1 overall. And I don't think he would be either if Josh Allen has a good season. Allen was contemplating to declare this season and if he has a good year I fully expect him to enter the draft.

By the 2018 draft we'll know if Cousins is on our roster or not...

Well Trump said Beathard will be the next Brady so I don't even see how this is even a discussion anymore

Josh Allen is going to have to do A LOT of work if he wants to be a 1st round pick. He finished the year 1-4 and was completing 51% of his passes with 11 TDs and 7 INTs.

2018 NFL mock draft: The year of the quarterback is soon to be at hand
It's a year away, but the 2018 NFL draft looks to have a huge QB class.

We will draft our franchise Qb next year, I will keep saying it. CJ is a Qb Kyle can maybe groom.

This next draft is loaded with Qb's Kyle will get his Qb next year, whether its darnold or not.

We will get 5 wins with Hoyer in this division tops.

We will not be close to the Sam darnold sweepstakes, our d will be much improved and having Kyle's offensive mind and play calling will be huge help. I don't expect a 3rd quarter of pure garbage offense

Wow. You have exceeded your overthinking quotient for the entire year on that one.

If it went down like that next year we will be getting the best QB in the class Josh Rosen has above and being the best mechanics and plays in a pro style system. Would be my next Jersey have followed this kid since his Bosco days he's the real deal.

CJ had to throw to tight spaces down field, he did this fin in 2015, but last years team lacked talent and his numbers went down, but he played through adversity, a trait shannahan covets.

We might look at this pick in 4 years and laugh how the majority were wrong, and CJ was a great pick, and people will say Deshone Kizer got drafted ahead of him. I heard Kizer was so lacking football awarenenss that he even struggld with what foot to put forward in shotgun.

You know who falls in that category.... Watson. Besides Deng near all the supposedly top QBs this draft didn't know anything about taking the ball from under center. I hope this kid pans out. I bet you he gets a fair shot unlike Driskell did.

We have one of the hardest schedules next year with Hoyer at the helm will probably get injured and Matt Barkley is a INT machine we will be in the top 5 IMO

Sam Darnolds mechanics are not good and needs to improve a lot IMO

The only thing worse then a mock draft is a VERY EARLY mock draft.

Last year some had Brad Kaaya to the 49ers in the top 3. He ended up almost going undrafted this year....

Sadly, I know longer trust Shanny's opinion on QBs. Regardless of how many QBs are projected to be studs next draft, how many of them will fit Kyle's offense?? Maybe 1, maybe none. Maybe he just doesn't want to teach a young top prospect QB his way and have the pressure of grooming a new QB quickly and just cops out and goes after Cousins.

Yes, "apparently, he wanted to draft Derek Carr" But was Derek Carr looked at as a top 5 pick in 2014? No. So remember not every great or even future HOF QB is even compatible with the genius Kyle Shanahan. All I'm getting at is: don't get your hopes up.
I will repeat here what I said yesterday: Shanahan did not move up in the draft, albeit is small one, to draft a career backup. He saw enough of him to believe he can be a starter at some point, perhaps even a very good one. The fact there were other quality players available to the 49ers at the point they chose Beatherd should tells us they have "starter" written on him at some point. I just do not believe Lynch could do such a good job in selection players that will help the team on every other pick and completely blow this one. I just cannot think that.

CJ is in a great situation coming in as the #3. It is a much better position for a young guy to be in than the backup. As the #3, he can focus on watching and learning rather than constantly thinking that he may have to grab his helmet and go into the game at a moment's notice. As #3 he can record data and take a broader view of the game. He is free from all the pressure. In the long run, when he does get his chance to play, he will be much more confident and ready to go.

Despite what some of the very respected posters here have said, I am fine with this pick.
This guy looks like he has confident pre-snap presence, nice footwork, a quick set up, comfortable spatial awareness, the ability to put the ball in the air before the receiver finishes his route, and throws a catchable ball.
Don't see the drama. Just the potential.
