This is the quarterback that Kyle liked the most in the draft. He thinks that he has the best skill set and tools that will translate to Pro success, especially in his system. Now he is banking everything on it. he drafted him and will develop him the best he can, and if he doesn't like the progress or think it is going where he wants it to, next season he will go after Cousins, Garapollo or someone in the draft.
Pretty much this is him taking who he thought was the best QB in this draft and seeing where it goes, gives him a year to gauge his development and if it isn't good enough they are going to get someone else next season. I think it is very smart. This guy could surprise us all and I think we all hope he does.
Are you sure this is the quarterback Kyle liked most in the draft? I think it's safe to say, "This is the quarterback Kyle liked most in round three when they were picking."
Good analysis tho
Yeah, Kyle seemed to perk up when talking about Trubisky but the value of that trade back was too good to pass on from a "team standpoint." IMHO, there was really, only 2 or 3 QB's Kyle felt comfortable with: Trubisky, Peterman and Beathard. The latter two, being far more pro ready in this offense than Trubisky b/c of the pro-style offenses they played in and how their specific offenses translate to Kyle's here. I had Peterman and Beathard valued much higher than the rest of the league b/c of these factors. And when you watch tape side-by-side of both Peterman and Beathard, it's neck and neck in terms of talent and translation skills to Kyle's offense.
IMHO, Kyle believes he can develop Beathard into a starter the same way he did with Cousins and in a similar fashion as his time in Washington; he will have a chance to develop him over 1.5-2 years and he should be pro-ready to start then or, at worst case, become a very valuable backup seen with starting potential like Garoppolo (b/c he'll be seen as properly developed around the NFL d/t Kyle's acumen) = trade bait.
In terms of perception, outside of New England, I can't think of one team more than SF that could carry that perception of a "QB development factory." That can't be understated. And don't give up on Barkley either. Cohn noted that for Kyle's first full team practice open to the public, Kyle spent the entire time with the QB's and WR's. That should tell you something...
