I hope you're right but we heard that when Jeff Driskel was drafted a year ago same round as Brady

But drafted by a regime that had absolutely no clue what was going on
And if I recall Driskell was in the same mode as Kaepernick. CJ is a QB prospect we haven't had in years.. Not saying hell be great... Or even good but.being able to read a defense and coming from a pro style offense I can only hope this pans out... Last time we could of drafted a Prospect that could read defenses and came from a pro style O was none other then.... A Rodgers. Maybe CJ can sit and learn under Hoyer for a year or two and he succeeds with Shannahan. One thing I do know is this regime is already making better decisions and training camp hasn't even started. I for one can't wait
Reading defences is more important than arm speed.

You are probably right, but I'm hoping CJ can pick up the offense fast enough to challenge Matt for the 2nd spot in pre-season.

CJ won plenty of games? (21-7 as the starter)

also, when taking a college prospect - winning is so overrated. College records have so much to do with conference and scheduling, not to mention the weight a school name/coach holds.. Look at the most winning college QBs all time: Colt McCoy (45-8) - average at best, Kellen Moore (50-3) - career backup, Andy Dalton (42-7) - solid, David Greene (42-10) - never played a game in the league, Peyton Manning (39-6) - top tier all time.

I'd say intangibles and mental football capacity are what I want!

and CJ has pretty good intangibles and a great football mind.

Why not, it isn't like Barkley is something special or something.

agree. I predict Beathard outperforms Barkley in the preseason, cant wait to see this guy after an offseason with Shan.

Jeff Driskel looked horrible in the preseason, I had hopes he would turn into a solid back up but he looked like he needs to sit for about 5 years. lol

I guarantee you Beathard looks 10 times better than Driskel, the big advantage is Beathard coming from a Pro Style offense. IMO

This being the Webzone I guess it's too much to expect that people would just take a wait and see attitude towards Beathard without burdening themselves with all of these expectations about what he may or may not turn into. It's probably safe to assume that we won't know anything about him until pre-season roles around and there is an opportunity to see him play, then all of this chatter about him might actually mean something

You might say the same thing in the NFL. Stick Montana in AL Davis' vertical offense and you would probably get a much different result than 4 superbowl wins without an interception. Or Brady in Chip's offense. Surround a QB with a good supporting cast and you should get some wins. I just want a QB that can move the ball decently - I'm tired of the past here where their performance has been so disappointing.

Yeah, Shanny even said that when he was evaluating CJ, he already was doing what he wanted to see. He didn't need to project how he'd look running a pro style offense, because he was already doing it.

Barkley, from what I read about him, was a pretty good college QB. All the guys that make it to the 53 usually are gifted. I think a lot of the problem is the adjustment in speed from the college to the NFL level. Some guys can do it and many others cant.

I recently read a Joe Montana article where he talks about knowing the defensive coverage almost 80% of the time as he lined up pre-snap. He'll put a guy in motion and that cetainty went up to 90%.

I'm sure that was a combination of knowing the offense backwards and forwards, and tons of reps. And his QB instincts. I hope Kyle can at least get CJ to the level where the first part is accomplished.

Barkley had that memorable game against us in the snow in a win. I was really impressed - if I remember correctly he was doing a good job of moving the chains and I think Kap was having problems in the snow. Barkley was the better Qb that day.

Yeah, I agree - I think he'll win that #2 spot over Barkley. This is Shanny's handpicked guy, let's see what comes of it.
