I don't expect hoyer to be anything more than "okay" this season.

I don't think CJ will be close to playing until after his rookie year at least

I'd be shocked if he's anywhere close to beating out Hoyer or Barkley next year. They are light years ahead of him.

If I'm wrong that means Hoyer and Barkley completely stunk this season. Personally, I was pumped that we signed Hoyer. I remember watching him in Cleveland and thinking they finally found their franchise QB. Him and Shanny are a great pairing. Likewise, I think Barkley could thrive in his offense.

I'm not expecting anything from CJ until the end of year 2 or year 3

Hoyer is the key to this season, and maybe the future. I'd love for CJ to do a Dak Prescott with the 49ers, but in order to do that - our run game has to be top 5 in the NFL. My best scenario for CJ is -- CJ beating Matt, and taking the 2nd string snaps this entire season. And challenge Hoyer for first string next year.

Exactly. Having experience in a pro style offense, he's already on even playing ground with Barkley. Hoyer has the experience in Kyle's WCO. So it would not surprise me at all if Beathard wins the #2 spot this year and competes with the lot next year. He's a great clay to mold and Kyle is personally attached to him.

I wasn't that much better vs Stanford. Oh well, I trust Kyle, he knows what he's doing.

2015 tape. Football is a team sport. He had no WR's in 2016 and was injured.

Anyway, we essentially used a 4th rounder on CJ. At this point nobody in the organization is saying he's the long term answer at QB.

I see him as a low end starter or a backup in the NFL. At best an Alex Smith type QB. I could be wrong, anything can happen but if we end up with a FQB from the draft it's far more likley it will be a round 1-2 QB.

If we don't land Cousins I can almost guarantee we'll be drafting a QB first two rounds 2018. They're not going to roll into 2018 with CJ as the long term QB. At least I hope not.

Hoyer may be average in this offense, play great by his career standards, but that is cause he has been in this offense before.

I don't expect much from Barkley, like we have all said before, this offense is very complex and he has never done anything in his career besides beat us up in the snow. So I don't have any confidence in him. I am optimistic though.

Even though the odds of C.J ever becoming anything in this league are low, its exciting for us that our coach likes him and will develop him. I really hope he has made such strides next year where in camp he looks great and creates a QB controversy.

Nice post...agreed!

Dallas has the best o-line in the NFL and a great run game. We're nowhere near that. We also don't have one of the best WR's in the NFL.

If we had a really good WR group, a great o-line and top run game maybe CJ could come in and play well but I don't see him having the sort of success Prescott had his rookie year.

I don't think CJ will even see the field in 2017. If we don't land Cousins he might play in 2018 as a rookie learns the system. Hopefully we get a great WR in 2018. Hopefully our run game takes off this year. The o-line is another question mark IMO. Our run blocking was pretty bad last year.

C J will sit and watch this year and then compete with which ever QB they draft next year.

We will keep drafting QBs each year until we get a gun passer.
Wow a 4 year deal.

most likely we are not going to keep 3 Qbs

4 year deal for CJ

Link

The 49ers are down to one unsigned draft pick, and he's the one who's not there.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, third-round quarterback C.J. Beathard has signed his four-year deal.

Championship, bro.
Everyone gets 4 year deals, 1st round picks are 4 years with a 5th year team option.

yes but the depth at the position is key, Barkley and hoyer might not be with us at the start of the season

They must see something in CJ that makes them think they have a potential ALL PRO star.
GGG, where and how do you come to that conclusion about Beathard? 49Allthetime, Hoyer and Barkley will BOTH be here to start the year, barring serious injury. Beathard is 3rd string for now, and perhaps by the middle to end of season he might slide to 2nd string, unless he's forced into action due to injuries.

Well I'm glad he's signed, as 49erallthetime said, both Hoyer and Barkely have had injury histories, and CJ will be 3rd string which means nothing if past history holds true that Hoyer and Barkely are injury prone. If CJ can overtake Barkley, considering Hoyer's injury issues, CJ could be a starting QB as early as the 7th regular season game.

He's one optimistic dude!
Marc Bulger and Dak were the most recent. Keep praying, but why not us? If not then Cousins next year or 2019 will work
