Totally agree. This FO has no issues replacing average vets with young up and coming youth.

Truth!

I think they'll devlope him a bit more and put him in the rotation more often.

He's the future at the position.

That's the main difference between the Fangio 3-4 and the Carroll 4-3 under. *Simplicity.* It's plug and play. 3 rookies in the secondary, no problem. Brand new pass rusher traded in the 4th week with no offseason practice with the team. No problem. On the other hand Fangio's defense - he never plays rookies in his defense, it's so complicated.

Solid post Geidi!

Also Fangio also burned out his starters w/almost zero rotation.

If you cut Mitchell who backs up DJ?

Sheldon Day or Day starts with D.J. as backup

Day may have to put some weight on but they could be a nice duo.

Yea who knows. Gonna be a battle leading up to the season for sure. Nice that we have options now at their position.

I think Day has a chance to get the starting nod cause hes big enough to stop the run but will add a lil more pass rush imo. Ofcourse I'm rooting for DJ. We got some great depth on our DL.

Truth!

If we had an effective Leo our D line would dominate and the total D would be incredible.

DJJones tosses aside the Center to make the stop. His snapcount was directly related to Sheldon Day's. As soon as the 49ers claimed Day off waivers in week 12, DJJones was inactive for the rest of the 2017 season.
Yo, that was textbook. Great job with his hands, feet, and eyes.

Gimme more DJ plz.

Earl Mitchell is a locker room leader, but the flashes Jones and Day showed -- coupled with their youth -- puts them hot on Mitchell's tail right now. I hope they can find a way to keep both, but ultimately would hate to lose a long-term NT of the future like Jones by keeping an older player.

Good post. Probably just becomes a numbers game, how many DL will we keep?

Armstead, Buckner, Mitchell, Thomas,
Blair, Day, Jones... Jullian Taylor... ?
Keeping 8 seems doable but I'm probably forgetting someone... Maybe it ends up affecting who we keep/cut out of the LBs... do Harold, Watson, Pita, Attaochu all make it? Maybe we end up choosing between Coyle and Toomer? Or they both make it and Lee doesn't...

Maybe our versatile players in the secondary like Moore and Ward (and Tartt can play both safety positions) allow us to keep one less DB...

The thing about Jones is he has about 30 lbs on Day, and he is younger. Day has the ability to bounce between the 1T and 3T which makes him valuable on game day too. Mitchell is a leader and was decent last year, but if someone plays better in camp and pre-season they will start. I think Jones has a realistic shot at being the #1 NT for game 1.

Mitchell was statistically the worst DT in the league last year vs the run.

Yeah, Day and Jones certainly seemed much more active. Probably not as disciplined though.
