Huge game for him and Day coming up.

Day can play 1T. Once Day was acquired last season, DJJ became a healthy scratch the rest of the year.
I still don't understand why this guy is not starting over Mitchell.

I think Mitchell is probably the best line stuffer, Day is the best at getting into the backfield, and DJ Jones does a good job at both. I think next year will be DJJ's breakout year and we will release Mitchell after the 2018 season

Day has also been playing NT since late last year. Also, this is a one gap scheme...not the traditional 2-gap hold your ground against 2 OL scheme. You want more athletic big guys inside which is why we're seeing more and more Jones and Day.

Remember, if Mitchell is on the roster, Jones will be sitting on his ass inactive for another year.

Yeah I can't see both Mitchell and DJJ being active on gamedays when Day is in the lineup providing positional flexibility. These big dudes don't provide much on STs so having 2 guys that are purely 1T (DJJ, Mitchell) isn't ideal. Not sure how cap savings works out, but unless Mitchell is an big, influential lockeroom leader, I think he's a veteran cut. Especially if DJJ continues to play well this preseason.

Sounds about right.

Agree

I really hope some team is looking for a NT and we can trade him and get a draft pick for next year.
DJ should be the starting nose. What a hell of a game. His balance through contact is what impresses me most. He's so good at staying squared up while moving his feet. Also has quick hands that consistently land inside the center's framework. He reminds me a lot of Grady Jarrett, ATL's 1/3.

If Saleh really wanted to go big in base, he'd have DJ at 1, Day at 3, Defo at BE and Solly at Leo. That would be a stout lineup.

The only thing with Mitchell is that we wouldnt get any cap savings from cutting him. His whole salary this year is guaranteed i believe. I think a trade would probably be ideal or if DJJ outperforms him, maybe make Mitchell inactive and keep him as insurance in case DJJ gets injured. But given that he is veteran and a leader, he might request his release if we dont let him suit up on gamedays

I don't think his salary is guaranteed for 2018. I'm looking at overthecap dot com for Mitchell's numbers and it says the team would save $1.2, with $2.6 dead money, if he's cut. I think I read that right. $1.2 can get a depth DB/LB that can contribute on STs.
DJ has definitely surpassed Mitchell. They'll probably give Mitchell extra chances to keep his job, but it looks like DJ is clearly beating him out.

Day earned himself some snaps also. If Buck slides out, Day better come on the field.

I'd like to see:

Thomas - Day - DJ - Buckner

That's a lot of beef and everyone can play. We'd still have AA, Taylor and Attaochu (or Dumervil) rotating in.
Fire off, punch into center's framework, extend, locate ball, work lateral at heels depth to minimize space, separate, and finish. Baller.
