The very last thing AR 12 expected on the 2nd play of the game was 320 lbs of DJ knocking over anyone and anything between DJ and AR. He looked totally shell shocked and a lay later we had 6 pts. Now THAT is a way to humble, embarrass , and destroy your opponent, with a good old demolitions sack, where everything and everyone gets knocked down. When AR picked himself up off the pile, he looked like he had seen a ghost. Imagine, DEE is out, and we got rotational guys just waiting to have their number called on the D.
Buck just cleaned house, Julian had some really nice tackles, and whichever other rotational guy i missed,,,,my apologies. Boss had what 3 sacks? Armsetad had 2 and a pair of TFLs, a shoot, i forget because they came so fast and furious. Oh, AR's 104 yds passing was a new personal "best" ....unhhh....make the worst for him...
And for those out there that think we don't need Arik to make this DL go....i would suggest going back and re-;looking at AAs work for tonite. They simply could not handle him...or any anyone else for that matter. It really looked like after the first 2 minutes of the game that AR would have been happy to return to the jacuzzi for a good soaking of his aching bones.
You noted that on Skules side they had a really good twosome that just ate Skule's lunch....virtually every play. And no sooner had i posted it , darned if kyle didnt' put Brunskill in th handle those two guys. BUT...that was it. There was no other DL activity that required any thing but swapping Skule out for Brunsikll and he DID play well.
It all boils down to having not 4 but really 7 or 8 studs on the DL that all can bring rain and shake the stadium. And therein lies the reason for continuing to keep Arik along with Dee, Buck and Nick. Don't care what it costs, we right now have a DL that gets teams into the playoffs for certain. And yes the Ravens in a week are going to be a handful. But the DL on our side
Is what you want your DL to play like and keeping together the Magnificent 7 is a must do at season's end. Because anybody who watched that game toniite got a sneak peek at what our DL is going to look like in the playoffs. We need everyone of those guys we had out there tonite and if you keep this crew together, we will be unbeatable.
What's really amusing, is when someone says, "wow our DBs are sure playing better". Well, yeah, they sure are. But that is due to the absolute beatdown of the OL by our front 4 and includes the rotational guys we use to give them a blow. Barring injury, this portends what is to come...and the crew we had out there on D tonite....those guys are just flat out knocking them dead and piling them up like cord wood. Never do I recall us having a DL this awesomely good. Great coaching , great talent, and great playcalls on D.

Didn't see a thread for him but wanted to give a big shout out to him for his play last night. Big time performance.

This has gotta be pretty scary for offensive coordinators. Now they gotta worry about this guy too? Great effin game. Can't wait to see all the film breakdowns.

Funny thing is, people can't get over the whiffs at the top of the draft in 2017. And that draft still produced Witherspoon, Jones, Kittle, and Taylor. We got a good season out of Colbert starting (which is more than what you usually get out of 7th round picks), and then there's Thomas. Obviously not a good pick, but he is a solid rotational guy.
As for 2018, solid draft. No one looking All-Pro, but definitely solid players at a few positions. You could put their drafts up against any team in the league over the last 3 years and at worse, we are middle of the pack.

Cat quick. Power with some wiggle.
I see the same with Julian Taylor too playing inside.
Part of the Niner--we are the gaunlet.

Originally posted by OnTheClock:Jones is a great par value in the 6th. Kid can really move, shows great awareness in finding the ball typically, and usually does a good job extending to free himself from blockers. Could clean up some technical areas (he sometimes overpursues or lets his momentum get used against him to turn him and move him out of his gap), but overall he's got the abilities to make an NFL roster.
My initial scouting report on Jones ^
He's grown leaps and bounds and is playing well beyond the round he was selected. Hope we can find another one just like him to keep that rotation going strong!

I remember people saying that there wouldn't be a huge difference if Jones started over Mitchell and that Mitchell was doing just fine.
I think everyone now sees why I got so frustrated about that subject. Jones is a huge reason why this defense has taken the next step.
