Dial has versatility, I think it would be both jones fighting for one spot

This guy was one of the better under the radar prospects. He's got great quickness for his size. Could play nose tackle or 3 technique. I think he could crack the rotation in sub-packages, he's best when kept fresh in a part time role.

I'd like to see him as a 2 gap NT and pair him with another 2 gap DE and have him stunt strongside.

I believe Buck has been working at LDE.

Really? Everything I read had him working at 3T, with Thomas slotted for LDE. I like Buck a lot more at LDE than 3T, personally. I'd like the base to be Buckner, Mitchell/Jones, Armstead, Thomas. They could shuffle dudes all over the place on sub packages, with Lynch, Pita, Harold, Brooks to use as edge guys and Buckner, Armstead, Thomas, Blair to use inside. Thomas might develop as an edge guy if he gets work done with DWare.
You have forgotten Lynch in that package.

I haven't seen Lynch play recently, and when I did see him play, I was underwhelmed by his play. Don't get me wrong, I've seen him flash talent, but just not very consistent.

Me too. My base (run defense) would be a bit different though: Buckner - Jones - Thomas - Armstead

But to your points, lots of flexibility along that DL and with one-gapping and the potential for a ton of stunts, it's almost moot who "starts" where on base downs mostly. And then throw in the pass rush personnel? Shoot...Saleh will be busy, indeed esp. if he can find two good edge rushers somehow (LEO/SAM).
I'm hoping Jones can become another Michael Carter , not the next Reggie McGrew

The dude is going to be a beast on base downs. I can't wait...

he has the strength to bully offensive lineman , and his lower center of gravity should cause a lot of problems in trying to contain him , he's going to be a steal, and other clubs will be kicking themselves they didn't go after him

I like that lineup.

From what I've read here and from the Niner Draft board threads regarding D.J. Jones, he's strong and can take on double teams. I think DJ is Perfect for that NT position, and with that quickness, he can get into the backfield on some stunts or wreak havoc on just penetrating into the backfield on a designed stunt. His handspeed is amazing, and I think with that hand speed - he'd be a great DT that can grab two OT's and lock them up which frees one of the other D Line guys to wreak havoc in the backfield or pressure the QB.

If he does, man the ghost of that 1989 defensive line team just might come back. What a defensive line that '89 '90 and '91 team had. That team had two super bowls and missed out on a third one at the last second.
