QB Nick Mullens is now a Viking

Mullens is a backup. We know this.

He throws to where the receivers are rather than where they need to be. When the offense is based on YAC that's not good.

Jimmy does this at times too, but not anywhere close to the regularity of Mullens.

Mullens can move around and extend plays well, I'll give him that much.

I don't hate Mullens as our BU, I just wish we didn't have to rely so much on our BU.
Eh, put in CJ

I can agree with this. But I'll throw in, at the end of 18 we all heard about Jimmy's lack of experience despite 5 years under bellicheck and shanny.

Mullens only started 14 games over 3 years.

Again not saying he'll be the savior by no means. Nor am I saying I want him starting BUT we still need to factor in his lack of experience the same as we did for Jimmy leading in to last season.

Nice post.

I dont think Mullens is anything special in the slightest but I do find it quite hypocritical that he is not afforded the excuses that are regularly given to the QB he is backing up.

Not sure I'd even call him a good backup or #2 QB because he will never develop into anything more than he is today because of his physical limitations. This team needs a good young backup with physical tools to either eventually become the starter or be worth some value in trade.

No it's a terrible post, as is yours. Take Jimmy's first 14 starts and compare them to Mullens' first 14 starts, and it's a night and day comparison. Anyone who understands football can see the immense gap in talent and football IQ. Hence why Jimmy got the big contract and will get the starting job handed to him once he's healthy. It's unbelievable to me that some people are so hateful towards Jimmy just because their wife or girlfriend is attracted to him, that they try to prop up a career backup like Mullens and try to make it seem like he's "the same" or "better" than Jimmy. You have posters on here like thl and jonnydel who have done extensive research and film breakdown, who both agree. You have an NFL GM giving Jimmy a huge contract. You have a genius NFL coach starting Jimmy over Mullens without question. You have teammate after teammate call Jimmy a "baller" and defend him. Yet a handful of you wannabe football GM's, who've never played nor coached a down in your lives, think you know better than ALL of these people? How embarrassing.
I blame shanny. Not training up Mullens or Jimmy G. They both look much worse and are not progressing their reads at all. Not looking anyone off. Agreed the line sux. But they are really not doing the "little things" they need to do to thrive in the pocket.

From Steve Young

"It feels like Nick is the kind of guy we can put some more weight onto and I don't think he breaks. He seems like the kind of guy you can really do that (to). And that begs the question around the tension that will build as he succeeds in the locker room. What I'm telling you is it's not a controversy, it's creative tension. It's everybody gets it, Nick's come on and done well, and I suspect as he continues that, that'll just create more creative tension, put pressure on Jimmy and others, and it'll actually be a positive for everybody.

"Regardless how you want to look at it, it's good for the team. It's good for Jimmy, it's good for Nick, it's good for Kyle and the truth wins out over time.

"It's a positive in every direction to push people to play better."

From Sherman

"Nick Mullens has such a high ceiling," Sherman said. "And I think sometimes you get caught up in this league and say, 'Hey, this guy was drafted (in the) first round, so we hold him to this regard. This guy was undrafted, so we don't even give him consideration for being a top-level guy.'

"I think Nick Mullens can be a great quarterback in this league. Obviously, Jimmy's our guy, and he's the guy who's going to get his snaps when he comes back, and gets the acclaim. But I think Nick, when he gets his chance to be a starting quarterback in this league at some point, is going to surprise people."

100% agree and this is worrisome.

It seems that Mullens and Garoppolo have gotten worse under Shanahan. ´18 Mullens was clearly better than ´20 Mullens and Garoppolo was great in ´17, average at best in ´18, then just a passenger in ´19 and absolute crap in ´20.

I see Carr and he has gotten better and better under Gruden.

Enjoy your night

After all the laughs you've given me this afternoon, I definitely will. Thanks, man.
Nick is up there with Dan Marino for yardage in his first 13 starts. Shanny has done a great job of making the system produce yardage regardless of the QB.

and

Nick has looked like a rookie as much as any young QB looks like a rookie, all that yardage and he does not have the vision or the arm or the timing to make the red zone produce TDs. Its a young QB thing i am sure.

Nick looks like one of those guys who one day is gonna click and then you have your next Alex Smith Steve Gannon type QB.

Minus half a season Jimmy that first year, it has been forever since the 49ers had a QB that could straight up beat the blitz and make a team pay.

I pray the 49ers do not put a 1st round pick into a QB until after they fix the oline.

How does just a passenger in '19 pass for nearly 4,000 yards??

as i've posted before, Shanny loves the idea that he has to be the team's MVP when the team wins.. his name and his ability to call good plays must be mentioned w/each victories... he needs this assurance and it's the reason why he continue to fail when it counts the most.
