Yeeeeah but it depends right? Like I always say, QBs are not clones of each other. So even if we wait to fix the oline, we might have missed out on a true starter QB.

So if there is a legit QB available that falls on to our lap, and not just some prototypical safe pick, then I say we still get him.

By riding the talent around him. We have years of proof that a guy like Alex Smith can't throw for 4k yds.

But give him the top rusher, Tyreek Hill and a great play caller and he can be carried there.
Mullens is a weird case. I like him as qb2 a lot. He knows Kyle's system- which is notoriously difficult to learn- and can step in easily if things go wrong for a game or two.

But is he a starting qb for a whole season? No.

Mullens is good - he's just not great.

He"s moved backwards this year. You can see he commits to throws without reading whats there. Its scary. Usually when the play design first look is smothered.
Mullens is barely an ok back up qb. The guy can't even qb sneak properly

It's a "Chicken-Egg" thing.

Which came first and in our case what needs to come first.

IMO, if they are confident on a true franchise QB - then take him.

If not - we MUST fix the Oline.

It sucks.
The problem with nearly all backups is that they can't keep repeating their successes. It's one thing to come in for part of a game or start a game here and there. Teams may not have prepared for him and adrenalin alone can lift a guy. When he has to start for a series of games, all his flaws will show up. Teams will spot them quickly and jump all over him. Backups are backups for a reason. Sometimes it's because they're young and still learning but it's usually because they just aren't good enough to be full time starters.
idiot
He's gonna get somebody killed with how he leaves his receivers out to dry so often.

Reed saw this a few games back and hasnt been going all out of balls over the middle since. Receivers know when the QB isnt protecting them over the middle and it is showing on this team.
would cj really be worse? mullens has zero composure under pressure. He knows he cant physically hang with the big boys.
Hes checked out mentally. he wont do anything until its garage time.
