The brakes have been broke for a while here on the Zone.

yeah what are the chances of that? It's nuts

I'm sure league calling Kyle right now to promote starting Mullens Monday Night.

Goodell: Hey Kyle, for ratings/storyline purposes, can you start Big Dick?
Kyle: I'm trying to win games here. CJ most likely be ready by then.
Goodell: No need to tank, I will make sure you get a top 3 pick.
Kyle: I will think about it.

I disagree, CJ looked very good vs. Green Bay, it's too bad his defense couldn't give him the support Mullens had.

I wouldn't say "very good". He disappeared when the 4th quarter started, you know, when we needed CJ the most.

The sports media loves to build up these overnight sensation feel good stories just to watch them crash and burn later.

It was great to see the ball come out on time for a change. Too bad Bruce Arians isn't a head coach anymore because he loves QB's like CJ. Tough minded, big play fishing QBs like Big Ben and Palmer. That's the system CJ belongs in. As for Nick, he looked great. Never locked on to one target, footwork was decent enough to help him make throws to 2nd and 3rd reads, 1st read quick throws were on time. Not sure why Shanny was so reluctant to play a QB that fits the West Coast system better.

It'll be interesting to see what defenses do now that Nick has film out there.

But if Kyle's trying to win games, what does that have to do with CJ being ready to play?

Yep. Just posted something similar.

I just don't like reading stuff like that when there is no facts to back it up. Watch the all22, observe, then make this type of conclusion if you notice simple concepts being dialed up. All22 isn't out yet so I was wondering how oaklandNiner came to that conclusion.

Interesting- when Jimmy struggled all I heard is how Matt Ryan did not do well his first year because Kyles offense is complicated. It was also well documented that Jimmy in 2017 only had a small piece of the playbook because of when he was acquired.

Last night I assumed he wasnt going to just throw the whole playbook at Mullen's because it was his first NFL start and it was prime time ( granted it was the Raiders). What I saw last night didn't look like a whole playbook. As NC pointed out, mainly wick three step drops. Nice quick slant routes and a lot of boot legs cutting down half the field. Not saying that's all it was, but there was a lot of it.

Also, you have to watch what people do and not say. Just because Mullen's knows the whole playbook, doesn't mean KS really used it.

Yeah but you go with the QB's strength. CJ isn't a 3-step drop quick release/zip it QB. Mullens has known this offense for 2 years now. There's no need to hold back.
Has Mullens ever thrown the deep ball yet? Would like to see how his accuracy is. Tim Ryan called him baby Brett (Favre) this morning on KNBR.

I'm not arguing that, of course you do.

I just know that Matt Ryan and Jimmy struggled the first year when given the playbook. And honestly, I didn't even know Mullen's has been on the roster for two years. If he has been on as long as CJ, shame on KS for sticking with Blowhard. Unless of course the real Mullen's has yet to reveal himself.

I like Timmy, but he's an uber homer.

For what it is worth, Nick broke all of Favre's Mississippi records.

I won't go into why Jimmy struggled, just wanted to know why you said Mullens had a pared down version of the playbook. I don't know what the truth is, just wanted to know why you thought Mullens was working with a limited playbook.
What goes into the gameplan is always a subset of the entire playbook, based on opponent scouting. Mullens having been in this offense the entire time Kyle has been here makes me think he has the full playbook at his disposal at the time of implementing the gameplan. But this is me speculating. You said it matter of factly that Mullens had a dumbed down version of the playbook so I asked why you thought that.

To the bolded, that's true, but also, just because a backup QB does well, doesn't mean he had a dumbed down version of the offense.
Didn't get to see the game, but I saw highlights.

He did look confident and decisive.. but in looking at it, it felt like he had a lot of "easy" throws off the play action, which is a credit to the running game and Kyle Shanahan's gameplay. There were also a couple plays that turned out to be nice (Kittle's catch and run). I'd definitely like to see more because the sample size was small.
Beathard played fairly well in a couple games that the team almost won -- the Chargers and Packers. Then he didn't play well at all vs the Cards. This team is pretty close to being 5-4 right now with a much easier slate of games down the home stretch.

I think it's obvious you stick with Mullens given his performance in last night's game. Who knows how he would have performed against the Chargers and GB, but it seems to me he would have won at least one of the games against the Cards.
