Scott Tolzien type of hype. Let's wait, with no film on him he beat the Raiders, who have a pass rush equivalent to a flag football team.

Scott Tolzien has thrown multiple TD's in a regular season game... exactly zero times.

At least use a better comparison like Shaun Hill.
Still looks better than any other 9er backup QB in the last 10 years, but let's see after couple more games lol

Agreed.

If he kills it the rest of the year hold on. Let him go into camp with Jimmy and see how it goes. I know Jimmy is our "FQB," but you have to play the best player. If Jimmy struggles next year and with injury, maybe Mullen's is the guy.

You never know. Mullen's could end up being great and Jimmy the next Matt Cassel.

Sadly, his performance was against the Raiders, so I have to credit it like a practice squad game.

Edit: as a number of posters have pointed out, Mullen's has a number of well designed easy throws.

Nope. That's an NFL team over there, and all of those guys beat out a world of players to make the team. They threw a bunch of blitzes at him, and Mullens burned them for it, so he has been tested by pressure. Judge him not by the competition, but by the judgement and poise with which he played, which is within him and has a chance to be carried over into the future.

You don't have to promise yourself he's the next Joe Montana to enjoy the moment, and find reason to appreciate this guy just might be a useful addition to the team, free of draft capital. If he proves to be a backup that can win games if needed, that can keep us in a playoff hunt.

I do not comprehend Any though of trading him. If he proves to be good, he's good at a position of need. Backup quarterback. If he's not that, we don't have one.

Not gonna happen. IT WAS THE TANKING RAIDERS FOR f**kS SAKE! GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND BACK TO REALITY!

LOL. You're probably right, but better get the knee pads out just in case.

I heard on a podcast that Kyle went full Rams this week and switched from 21 personnel (his staple) to 11 the whole game. And naturally, more 3 step drops. Kyle's ability to switch on a dime like that is special.

He shoulda done this weeks ago when teams figured out they could just stacked the box and bring the house every play.

Haha...it was probably the first time he had three healthy WR's at once.

Sounds like Kyle trusts Mullens to keep three wideouts in his reads and progressions, whereas the last guy could only handle two.

That's certainly possible.

It makes sense to play Mullens. There is enough film to know what they have in CJ.
