Mullens definitely looks poised and seems to go through his progressions. Anyway I'm not going to get too excited. There have been endless guys who come off the bench and make things happen for a bit and then come crashing down to earth big time.
Tim Rattay (yeah way back)
Shaun Hill
JT OSullivan
Troy Smith
Nate Davis (the zone wanted him to start because of one ridiculous circus throw he made in garbage time pre season).
Blaine Gabbert
CJ Beathard
I'm sure I've missed some. Hell even Alex Smith in 2009. That Texans game he came in to start the second half and threw like 3 TD passes on literally the same play to Vernon Davis three different times thanks to the genius of Jimmy Raye lol. And then he starts the next year 0-5 and nearly gets boo'd off the field ("We Want Carr")
Frankly I still need to see more of Jimmy G.

Mullens did all right. Two pics were not on him at all. Some of those throws though. Man. Floaters just inches Out Of Reach of the defender. Pretty scary. Probably he should work on arm strength putting a little more zip on it. I think hes pretty good though he makes good progressions in the pocket and looks off Defenders really well. Comfortable doing that. Overall I would say a B/B+ last night. Those pics really were unfortunate

Blaine Gabbert when was he ever good?
I agree with Jimmy G. He has potential but he has to maintain it and he especially has to show he aint going to do stupid stuff like get injured just to gain two extra yards.
Mullens has to do a lot more push ups to develop arm strength so he can throw it deep. He is accurate at short range and gets it out quick but we will be playing some better teams soon so we will see if he can lift his game.

I feel good about him being JG backup. He isn't the reason we lost yesterday. Nice to have some good qb for once.

I like how he plays, and how he sees the field. I want us to get real WR's finally. I'm very disappointed at the lack of talent on this team, some of these players handpicked by Shanny.

He composed and sung that himself right?

They tried really, really hard to get Aaron Rodgers to take the backup QB job but it just wasn't happening.

Mullens is a good back up, and a borderline starter in the NFL. I think he's the kind of guy that can come in and win half the games he starts. With a great supporting cast he could manage a team into the playoffs. He reminds me a lot of Shaun Hill but with a quicker release. I see him a 49er for a long time.

I think he needs to pump fake alot more. You can tell where he's going to throw to most of the time.
His long arm accuracy needs some tuning up as well. He seemed alot more nervous this time around.
Almost came back tho.
And those picks were just tip drills.

He has good poise and gets the ball out quick. The problem is he lacks arm strength and that limits the plays that can be called. Notice you haven't seen any over the top deep throws with him. Everything is underneath to Kittle. The deep outs are also a problem which is why some of those throws last night came close to being picked off. The INT's that he did have last night were passes that could have been completed but they were not great throws. Keep in mind that he has played against 2 really bad teams that aren't going anywhere so I don't make too much of the numbers. All and all I feel comfortable with him as a backup but you just can't expect to see any long bombs from him. Not being able to throw the deep out is another issue when trying to comeback late. Notice last night when he threw the ball over the middle to Grissom which ate up time on the clock as he tried to get out of bounds. If that had been a sideline throw they would have had at least one more play. I see why he wasn't drafted because of the arm limitations but he wasn't signed to be a starter. Don't be surprised if Kyle goes back to Beathard again before the season ends even though he has a different set of problems.

im just glad his emergence will allow us to move on from Cj Beathard. CJ has no business being on an NFL Roster. He is the racist white version of Nathan Peterman
