For the #1 pick straight up

Consider it reparations
Watch him draft a DB with a torn ACL with the first pick over Lawrence

Meyer's a 1st time coach, having to be in charge of personnel is too much on his plate. I'm sure he'll get the players that he wants, and if Baalke doesn't oblige he's gone. It gives Meyer a year or 2 to get acclimated to the pro game and to learn who the good personnel guys are.

Baalke will go before Meyer (barring health) so I see no downside here.

I don't know, Baalke is pretty good at the internal politics game. And regarding who lasts longest I don't give Urban more than 2 years, maybe max 3. Because you have to factor in health.
Too bad a NFC West team didn't hire him. We would have been guaranteed 2 wins a season.

My guess is Meyer wants complete control and wants to be paired with a GM in title only that will allow that power dynamic to occur.

Baalke has a checkered past, but I think time has improved his status in the league. Some reasons to justify the move:
- He's worked with a college HC transitioning to the NFL
- He's led a team to deep playoff runs including a SB appearance.
- SF 2019 SB appearance had some Baalke pieces to it (Mostert, Armstead, Buckner, Ward)
- Outside of his 2012 draft class, other classes have faired a bit better with age.

Hes also completely destroyed an organization from the inside out with lies and mystery leaks that poisoned the front office and coaching structure. The 49ers had success under Baalke because of the core that Scot McCloughan built before him.

Buckner was a no brainer pick at our slot, so anyone could've drafted Buck, and Mostert was a ST nobody that Chip Kelly worked with in Philly. I dont give Baalke credit for either of them.

He made some nice FA moves. Carlos Rogers was awesome here. Whitner and Bethea were solid as well. Boldin too. Jon Goodwin was a hell of a pickup.
Boreland was a great pick too.

Borland? Third round draft pick who played for one year and retired, keeping three quarters of his signing bonus. This is not my definition of a great pick.

I would tend to agree with Mister Moderator here. The thing I remember most about Baalke picks is that he always seemed to waste one on a player with a wrecked knee. The thinking was, at the time, that this player was "a steal" at this draft position and was "going to be great" after surgery and rehab.

Except, that never happened. I don't recall even one of Baalke's gambles on injured players ever panning out. Am I missing someone? Anyone?

I despise Baalke as much as anyone, but I don't remember lack of commitment being on Borlands scouting report. It was an excellent pick.

Where he deserves blame is in creating a horrid culture that opened the window to disillusionment with pro football. Kaep was right to be interested in social justice, but I'm pretty sure he never goes down that path while playing if our organization doesn't turn into s**t around him.

Will Redmond? Lol? Kinda but not really?

How do you take players in the 3rd round who will miss their rookie season?!
