I've been watching a bunch of Alex Gibbs stuff on youtube to learn the teaching points of this system. I now understand what Kyle meant by this being a "downhill" scheme. I think it's only a matter of time before Breida takes the lion's share of the workload. He's more natural fit for what Kyle/Bobby want from their RB.

Lil more shifty to cut on a dime?
(Hyde lovers i still might be one)

Honestly fellow 49er brotherans i think were over looking Hyde.

Shanny likes him...i think like us hes wanting to know if we should gamble without him.

It's not necessarily about physical attributes, although Gibbs did say he prefers a smaller, faster RB because speed helps with getting to the perimeter on bounced runs. It has to do more with being able to make your read and commit to it. That's the get downhill part. They don't want any wasted steps. Make the read, get in the hole, and take whatever is there. I think that's where Carlos has trouble. Making the read, sticking to it, and not wasting any steps or making extra, unnecessary cuts..

"The read should be made within 3 steps. I don't want to see any of that dancing s**t. Get in the hole." - Alex Gibbs

Another thing that stood out to me is how bad our line is for this scheme lol.

Yeah, Kyle has had to essentially go with an inside zone scheme for our personnel and Hyde. They've had a lot of success with it until injuries and it still helps with with PA but it doesn't stretch the field and play off the passing concepts as well.

The thing that I already love about the kid is that's he's already equally effective in the run game, passing game and in pass protection. That's rare for any rookie.
BTW if anyone wants to watch the videos, just search wide zone Alex Gibbs on youtube.
Aaron Jones is who we should have picked up.

I'm from El Paso and watched him play @ UTEP... Green Bay got a god damn stud.

I remember we brought him in for a visit.

I'm sure the team was high on Aaron Jones since both Jones and Breida comparable players. Their running style and physical attributes are very similar(Breida is the better athlete in every regard, tho).

I'm pleased with Breida. He's proving to be a UDFA gem.
This is why we're seeing more Breida.

Shanahan slowly working more and more outside zone in…

WK1-3: 34.3%
WK1-4: 37.2%
WK1-5: 41.4%

Now at 6th-highest OZ usage in NFL.

Makes sense along with Hyde struggled a bit pass protection and muffed pitch
Wonder if Hyde gets the extension done this year, or if the 49ers let him test FA?

This decision and Reid are two big ones thos coaching staff and FO must decide. I'm torn myself.

Rather have Breida
Agreed, I like Reid, and him playing at SS is a natural fit for him, but if Tartt is playing good there, and he's the cheaper option going forward, it makes signing Reid to an extension kind of tough, unless the contract was fairly cheap? Hyde I like, but if he's not a good fit for what Shanahan wants in his system, then better to just let him go at seasons end, unless we could trade him to a team in need, but the Cardinals just got Peterson, so a good match just went out the window.
Personally I would let both hit FA, and see what happens. If we like them enough, perhaps we could let the agents for each know, that if they want to stay, that they are free to explore what $$$ is out there, and if they want to stay, to let us know before they sign, what the contract looks like, and then we can elect to match it, or let them walk.
