He's got speed and is a okay pass-catcher. He can't break tackles at all though.
Sounds like we can get a home town discount for Hyde and we most likely draft a RB at some pt.
Not true at all bro. He's not as much of a tank as Hyde(very few RBs are)but I've seen him break tons of tackles. There's no way you average 4.2 yards a carry behind our o line without breaking tackles. Especially yesterday he was breaking them all day.
Shanahan was asked if Breida had starter potential on the heels of an 11-carry, 74-yard performance against the Jaguars.
"I think Matt Breida has the ability," Shanahan said. "He's gotten better throughout this year … I think he's doing a better job right now of breaking some tackles. And I think he had one of his better games Sunday."
Breida is not a stick, but if we wants to be a number 1 back he could get up to 200 lbs.

If he was a starter, I don't think I'd want him carrying the ball more than 11 times in a typical game. He's not that big a back and I don't think he can take the punishment of carrying the ball more than say 20 times a game, week in and week out. What I can see happening is if the 49ers have *two* Briedas that can share the load (Possibly Joe Williams and Brieda) splitting the carries to lessen the RB load each has to deal with. If for some reason Hyde is let go (and I don't think they will do that) then I'd like another Juszczyk type of Back in the lineup to replace Hyde. That way you have the *thunder and lighting* type of offense that you sometimes need when facing a tough defense like the Jags.

I Agree, this offseason, he needs to get stronger and maybe bigger to break more tackles, but somehow still keep that wonderful speed of his.

42 inch vert, bench pressed 225 23x which shows GREAT strength for his size. Sub 4.4 speed... Wouldnt doubt it if hes 200-205 and gotten even stronger since.

I'm all for improvement....hopefully he does (was my UDFA preseason crush).
By no means is he a #1 IMHO. Doesn't mean he can't be a solid player for us.
Truth!
IMO, excellent change of pace back.
The fans were goin' nuts for him at the stadium on Sunday. How awesome would it be to see him get even better?

Yup. He reminds me of Kendall Hunter for us a few years ago. He can come in and provide us with a spark.

Add Joe Williams to the mix and our backfield could be very dangerous. MB will learn to pick up the blitz better the more he plays. I'd like to see Shanahan use him more as a receiver...think he could really exploit defenses with his open-field running.
He's better than Hyde and should be the starter, only in Hyde's dreams could he make a play like this....

Not even his best run. there was a run where he got through a hole only Frank Gore would find. Hyde would have lost 3 yards.

Breida is fumble sometime and run too well.. he is not best yet.. Breida is close Mike david but Breida had level about 5 1/2 and mike david had level about 3 3/4. Hyde had level about 7 1/2. It is my opinion fact.

When I watched Breida run today I swear I saw flashes of Roger Craig.
The patience, the high knees, the soft hands on receptions.
Sorry for the sacrilege but it was fun to see.
