His route running was fine. I didn't notice anything particularly good or bad. Looked like a typical RB running routes, not polished like a WR. I don't remember many double move type of routes which is where I think Jet might have exploited LBs in coverage this season. Breida did not run any downfield routes that I can remember, I was looking for that and couldn't find it - wheel routes up the sideline, seam routes from the slot - didn't see any of that.

Breida has a shot to run away (pun intended) with the number of touches he gets if he has great early success.
Frank Gore more than doubled his production from year one to year two as a starter. If Breida gets over 1000 yards this year, he'll statistically surpass what the veteran Hyde did last season.
When you watch him play, what did you think of his hands and route running out of the backfield? Do you think it's something he can improve upon?

Not sold on Breida as a potential #1 back.
To those seeing him as a superior pass catcher...
58% catch rate for Breida last season. Hyde was at 67% as bad as he played. By comparison 77.8% was the catch rate for Morris Last season and a total Career catch rate of 70%.
Breida is not a superior pass catcher at this point, and consider this...he only had 22 receptions in 3 seasons combined of college football. I also have doubts he can maintain the 200lb weight he brought into the spring that still was marginal for the position.
He has explosive ability in the open field but he still struggles with breaking tackles and blocking.

Drop rate% is a better indicator of how well the RB can catch since it only counts throws that hit the RB in the hands. I don't think Breida will fare well looking at last season's drop rate% since he dropped a number of catchable throws and was not targeted a lot.
I like Breida over Morris in the passing game because when talking about wiggle to shake man coverage, and speed in the open field, Breida beats Morris in those two aspects.

Not surprised Breida had a poor drop rate last season. I do remember him flat out dropping some passes. Needs to shore that up.

Really hope Breida can take it to the next level. Dude runs rough and hard but I'm not sure his body can handle it.

This instant gratification society we live in is ultimately very unfulfilling. Enjoy the journey cc, not just the destination. This journey has only just begun.
Lol
Such a b******t comment.
We've had 2 good years out of what 20??
Don't know how old CC is but Some of us old fans are sick of waiting
So are we putting the failures of this franchise in the last 20 years on the heads of the current regime?
What did you honestly expect in year 2 for a team where a complete overhaul was needed?
We do not compare with the Rams of last year who were more like the 49ers entering into 2011- a team filled with talent and handicapped by poor coaching. We had poor talent and poor coaching prior to 2017. I'm not one of those everything is great fans, but this whining about what we don't have daily /weekly does what? That's not being balanced. Personally I don't like how we didn't draft a single edge rusher, but why post about that repeatedly? I don't see how football could possibly be fun (which is what this is supposed to be) if one is putting all their focus on what they don't have almost all of the time.
With that said, I'm glad we have two decent backs in Breida and Morris.

The 49ers better hope Morris can turn back the clock to his rookie and sophomore seasons or else Jimmy G will be playing like Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins back in the day. Virtually abandon the run and pass the ball all game long. Matt Breida just doesn't seem like the answer to me.
