OL Laken Tomlinson, signs with NYJ

Shanahan traded for Andy Levitre last year who isn't a zone guard and he excelled in ATL.

Good coaches put their players in a position to succeed. Tomlinson is a beast of a run blocker and better than Fusco.

Hate to be the negative one, but in Shanahan's outside zone scheme everything Tomlinson is decent at isn't asked of him, and everything he's supposed to be awful at is asked of him.

Beadles isn't better than a decent backup, but he's a much, much better scheme fit in the run game.

So, I don't like this trade that much, and am pretty confused by it.

I'm hoping I'm really missing something.

I look at it like this. Mayhew is the one who drafted him. If he spent a first round pick on him then he's spent way more time scouting him and knows his capabilities far better than us. Mayhew and Lynch are more than aware of what Kyle wants for his running game so if Mayhew and Lynch still decided to pull the trigger on this trade then it's because they feel Tomlinson can fit this offense.

Let's see how the trade plays out first. Our last trade with Detriot just before the regular season didn't work out so bad.

What? Everyone saying Tomlinson's weakness is his run blocking? I am confused.

He isn't a bad run blocking guard. That is his strength.

Trent isn't mobile at RT but he can move. So can Tomlinson. It's just not what they excel at.
I agree with whoever said above that Beadles is better than Fusco imo. While Tomlinson might not be an optimal fit, he doesn't have to be good to be better than Fusco. Tomlinson can be barely average and that's better than Fusco.

This guy just sounds like the Lions version of Chilo Rachal. No one in Detroit is sad to see him go, lmao.

Or Jordan Devey.

Devey was a UDFA and was supposed to suck lol...we will see about this kid, wasn't a fan coming out of the draft and I don't see the fit.
Will he play tonight at all I wonder? Or was it said already?

Tomlinson, Beadles and Fusco are equal in regard to overall skill. Their overall grades dictate that as well.

Who is everyone?

Tomlinson is a beast of a run blocker.

PICK (OVERALL): 28 (28)PICK ANALYSIS:

"This is a really interesting pick for the Lions. Tomlinson is one of my favorite guards in this draft. Tomlinson is a people mover; a phone booth guy and a finisher." -- Mike Mayock

From who?

Hard to argue with Maiocco, however, Tomlinson did play RG at Duke for 4 seasons though.

I agree with the way you're thinking. It's why I liked (not loved by any means, but liked) many of our FA signings even though none of the names popped out. I think Kyle Shanahan is trying to be like Belichick, in the sense that he's signing players not because they're well-known but because he feels they fit the system best. Obviously, Shanahan has a looooong way to go before he's even in the same league as Belichick. But we might as well give him a couple years to try his own thing.
What's his contract numbers? I could give 2 s**ts about a 5th rounder in 2019
