PICK (OVERALL): 28 (28)PICK ANALYSIS:

"This is a really interesting pick for the Lions. Tomlinson is one of my favorite guards in this draft. Tomlinson is a people mover; a phone booth guy and a finisher." -- Mike Mayock
Put him at RG and let him and Trent own the run game

I'd be more interested in what he's done the past two years.

Shanahan traded for Andy Levitre last year who isn't a zone guard and he excelled in ATL.

Good coaches put their players in a position to succeed. Tomlinson is a beast of a run blocker and better than Fusco.

Levitre is also like 25-30lbs lighter than Tomlinson. We will see I have no reason to be excited about the move because he's proven not to be very good in his nfl career thus far....hopefully he can get coached up.

This is seriously what you're concerned about?

Just kidding. This will give you an idea:

Yea seems like he's been disappointing. Hopefully this lights a fire up under him b/c we REALLY REALLY REALLY need guard help. Good move for a 5th

Put any player in a position where they aren't comfortable and they will struggle.

See Tank Carradine
My money is on RG, next to Trent.

He doesn't need to be coached up. Like any player he needs to be put in a position to succeed

He was a 4 year starter at RG. Won All ACC honors. Detroit drafted him and moved him to LG. Brilliant.

It's the same logic as putting Garnett on the right side where he wasn't comfortable. He played LG at Stanford and was dominant.

From the same profile

Strengths:

Intelligent four-year starter who sees and responds quickly to twist games up front. Plays with low pad level. Generates torque through hip snap and lower-body power. Has enough sand in his pants to drop anchor against bull rushers. Brings impressive level of power against like-minded phone-booth warriors. Generates push as an in-line blocker. Didn't allow a sack over the last two years. Will give teams his best brand of football when highlighted in straight-ahead power game.

Weaknesses:

Lack of range and athleticism is a major concern. Struggles with contact balance and allows defenders to disengage too frequently. Rock-'em, sock-'em movement up to the second level and is inconsistent hitting targets. Inconsistent footwork as a run blocker. Will give up initial bull rush as defenders get into his chest quickly. Fails to generate pop when asked to block on the move.

He sounds like more like a gap/power run blocker to me.

I need a, "Tomlinson was graded out as the 50th guard out of 70", or something like that. Someone that paid $200 for PFF, tell us what to think.
Zuttah and bibbs got me hesitant
Es todo chingon!

That's my biggest question. The FO has been trying to everything they can not to start Beadles. He has 0 future here but good depth right now.

Another Baalke mistake we're still paying for smh

Beadles is solid and versatile...just shouldn't be a starter.

IIRC he was the only [notable] FA we signed in 2015. One of the worst FA periods for this franchise, really.

Who would argue that?
