He should be a stop gap until we draft or sign a better player.

The only guys worth anything was Zeitler and Lang both who got paid a butt load of cash

This isn't even directed at cc but just the same repetitive crowd. It keeps coming up that we should have signed better lineman. We should have signed better corners. We should have signed better etc...Originally posted by NCommand:Originally posted by jonnydel:Agreed, why use up your cap space that will roll over on a rebuild year? If we're looking at making a championship run in 3-4 years, why no save that space to make a move to put you over the top then, not now? If you're talking FA guards, those are guys on 2nd and 3rd contracts. Meaning, they're going to be 27-33 years old for the top tier guys. That means when you enter your championship run you'll have those guys coming to the tail end of their prime and nearing the end of contract years - that's the kind of ish WAS has been in and why they haven't been able to sign KC to a long term deal. They spent so heavily in FA and re-signing guys that they're low on space. How do you think we got Pierre Garcon? It also makes your window for a championship run much smaller. Why has SEA's been open for the past 4 years? Because they drafted most of their guys. They've only used trades and FA to get guys they think can put them over the top, like Jimmy Graham and Eddie Lacey. They've also let some of their guys who are getting up in age to walk in FA - like Bill Walsh used to do.Originally posted by TheHYDE49er:Originally posted by susweel:Would have been nice if John Lynch would have spent some of the $50+ in cap room on some good free agent guards then wouldn't need to be trading for fizzled out 1st round picks. js
all the pro bowl guys were just lining up to play for the niners...come on, we were lucky to even get the FAs we got. good players dont want to play for a team that was 2-14 and all the issues we've had. it's gonna take a couple of years until we can get the big FAs.
cciowa reading this like
These get retorted in every thread without any kind of response until it just pops up in another thread. People we won two games last year. We were one of the worst historical run defenses in the history of the NFL. Let that sink in for a moment. This roster had holes all over it. For years the complaint on Baalke was that he didn't spend money in FA. Then we spend on FA and low and behold... we didn't spend it on the right players, lol. It's like people forget wanting the player is half of the equation. They have to WANT to come here as well...a two win team.
Lynch and Shanahan got the players they did almost exclusively just on past connections. Can we please get a little context in here? Just like Brock was supposed to start at corner for us this year until he was arrested a month into free agency leaving yet another hole on a team full with them. This is a rebuild... rebuild. Your not filling every hole in one off-season. For the love of Pete we just drafted a nice promising rookie class and brought in some solid free agents to push the schemes forward. Give it some time people. Rome was destroyed here over a three year period, it will not be rebuilt in a third of that time.

He's a 25yr old 1st round pick and Shanahan sees somthing that fits his scheme.

Yeah, there was no one in free agency better than the guys we already had. Poor excuse, sus.

I mean sus must be a GM for an NFL team, right? Because Lynch doesn't seem like he's trying at all.
2 things.1 I hope the Niners aren't counting on a bust from Detroit to help in the run game.2 We may be in for a long season trying to run the ball

That's Martin Mayhew's pick back in his days as Lions GM. He was a heck of a prospect in college with Duke which also shines in Senior Bowl so he got drafted on 1st round for this. Unfortunately he's not showing any progress in fact he had being rumors for axe him since last season finale. Then I guess it was Mayhew who suggest to lure him here and while a 2019 5th round pick is not a big lose they should have wait until final cuts to pick up from waivers instead. My guess is somehow an insurance for Garnett if he's not ready for Week 1 but I doubt he's a long term deal with us.

Just because he didn't do well in Detroit means absolutely nothing to me. If you Fizzles out no big deal. If you can play and our scheme and responds well to our coaching we have a very nice young player.
To those that wanted to spend big free-agent money in year one of a rebuild are just crazy. Go back to playing Madden.
Good points all around!

careful . you missed the memo. he spent it on malcom smith. but its ok cuz he can be a good coach on the sidelines., kind of what they are now saying with ward
I know right everyone wants to play in SF after fhe s**t show we've had for yrs lol
SF shows improvement plus they will have twice as much money to work with...they should be able to land some solid FAs next yr.
This staff isn't like Baalke from what I've seen in the off season they will make moves.

He'd just complain if we gave a buttload of money to so and so anyway...there's no winning there lol.

Really liked this kid coming out. I don't think Garnett will be back soon. Worth a shot
