I think it needs to be a team friendly deal. Or else we should wait

Cooper is a much better fit than him for this scheme at LG. I also think Garnett easily wins the RG spot.
They didn't pick up the option because the $ is so high. The 5th year option is derived from the prior year salary of the players position. In this case it is OL, which is scewed by the OT (typically higher salary than interior line). That is why it doesn't make sense to excise the option for Tomlinson.

Same will be said for Garnett they won't exercise it unless he blows the team away.

I mean the 5th yr option is like north of $9 million for an OL that's like TJ Lang cash lol...no way that's gonna happen. I get the AA pickup because he plays a more impactful position.

They didn't pick-up his option because it is $9.7 million dollars! I think they will look to re-sign him on a 2-3year deal for about that. I do think Tomlinson will start at LG for the 49ers this season.

one guy to watch if he get's tagged with the option...Dante Fowler. It's a $14+ million option so I doubt they do. He might be an option next yr in FA. Ray is as good as gone in Denver as well.

Thank you for having a brain lol.
Anyways, I think not taking a G in the draft shows faith in Laken/Garnett/Cooper to atleast get the job done and didn't care for the draft class much cause if did think we REALLY needed it y'all really think we'd just skip it? Same kinda goes pass rusher.. Teller and Oko were 5th rounders if I'm not mistaken.
Draft messes with people's brains lol.. Y'all see automatic upgrades, our staff didn't. I'll take their side

The team looks like their trying to get a long term deal done with Laken. I think it's more likely that Laken is currently penciled in on the left side again and Cooper was brought in to push Garnett.

Tomlinson overcame a slow start to finish strong and the end season with a 70.7 overall grade, 32nd out of 77 guards. $9M+ is obviously too pricey but he should be in the mix at guard this season. #49ers https://t.co/Xio0GVlDbH

I think best case scenario for us with the Guards, would be for Laken to sign a some what team friendly deal (4 million a season over 3-4 years), and for Garnett to win the starting RG pot. If Laken can keep the LG spot, and Garnett takes the RG spot, then our line would be set for the next couple years. Cooper is on a 1 year deal, so he can back both of them up, while Beadles gets cut and Magnuson would be the back up Center/4th Guard.

If I had to put money on it Garnett was a red shirt special last year to make more of a prototype as an OZS G.
Let's see what he's got.

So how many times did he get hurt? Besides going on IR to mold his body

I think Shanahan and co feel extremely confident that Garnett's reshaping will work. There were several guards in the draft with enough athleticism to project well in this offense, but they didn't budge.
My dark horse is Magnuson. He really impressed in preseason last year and the coaches love his toughness. I wouldn't be shocked to see he and Garnett starting at some point.
